I would imagine it's cable driven rather than magnet + sensor.

If it was me I'd get it on the centre stand and unbolt the covers around the handlebars so you can get to the back of the speedo. At this point you might get lucky and find the speedo cable has just got loose and just needs screwing back in.

If not, unscrew it from the back of the speedo... top tip: stick a cable tie around the speedo cable just under the collar you're about to unscrew otherwise it'll just drop down the cable and you'll be fishing around for it like an idiot. Don't ask me how I know Smile

The end of the actual cable in the sleeve will be a square shape. Spin the front wheel around and see if this square end rotates. If it does the the speedo is knackered. If it doesn't then the wheel end is knackered.

If it's the wheel side you might want to examine it before buying a new one. Take off the front brake, wheel and then you should see the only cable left being the speedo one. Carefully take this off the axle as some bits might fly out! There should be something like a cog inside that engages with a worm gear. Check the worm gear and cog for wear...

Hope that gives you some pointers!

Arse...

Well all I can suggest is checking the cable from the back of the speedo down to the sensor on the wheel and check it's not chaffed. Other than that the easiest test is swap sensor/cable/speedo till you find the fault Sad

Check: are you absolutely certain? Places like "pedparts" sell mechanical cables for them.

Hang on... when I say "digital" or "cable" I mean the input not the display Smile

You can have an LCD speedo and it still have a mechanical cable input.

Does the back of the speedo have this:

Absolutely certain this model/year has a completely digital speedo with wires from the sender to the head unit. This was the first thing I checked, Pedparts sell them for £45. I was asking if anybody had any known faults/repairs etc. to save myself some money.

Hi , HD is right ,its a cable driven off your front wheel to a wave connector into the back of the cluster

Lol... there are two types for this bike (so it seems) mechanical cable driven and electronic sensor. OP says it's sensor. I would imagine it'll be a sealed unit at the wheel so not much to do Sad

Define "not working". Blank display? Only shows zero? Shows random numbers when moving?

Throw us a frikkin bone here.

Definitely no cable, wires all the way. By not working, I mean the needle on the speedo stays at 0 mph and the miles on the digital display stay the same.
