My 118k, 2010 VW is showing a P0016 error code,

Crankshaft Position Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1 Sensor A)

It drove home fine although I’d noticed it was a bit rattly on start-up lately. I assume it’s a cam chain problem (it’s overdue) so it’s off the road. Unfortunately my local garage is closing down because the landlord is selling up to developers.

Anyhow, I was wondering why timing chain replacement isn’t a scheduled service item like it is on cars. Is it simply because most bikes don’t reach high mileage?

You can masure them. There will be a tolerance for a certain number of links in the workshop manual.

None of my bikes have a cam chain (Enfield 350, Enfield 612, Minsk 125 and VRF7500).
