hello all,
just inspected tank, its been stored for a while empty, spotted small flakes of dry rust powder coming out from where fuel cock sits.
I ask best way to clean and would you recommend an internal coating ?

If it's very light, I'd just leave it. If it's a bit heavier you can use a rust remover like doex-C or evaporust. White vinegar also works but it's critically important you flush it out REALLY well the neutralise with bicarb solution or it'll flash rust like hell.

On more severe rust, I've used POR15 before which works well but you need to make sure you follow the instructions to the letter, the prep is more important than the coating. Particularly with regard to it being THOROUGHLY dry before applying the final coating.

If you can afford it, after water rinsing you can also swill around a bottle of meths/ethanol to 'suck up' the residual water.

You may also just leave the tank in direct sunlight with no cap, nor tap to dry it out. Thumbs Up
