Hello,

I have just purchased this off eBay.

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7930990783&indexURL=0&photoDisplayType=2#ebayphotohosting

I was wondering, does anybody know where i can find a guide on how to fit it myself, as im not sure how and dont want to get it proffesionally done.

Also, are they eay to fit?

Thanks Very Happy

If you have the right spanners and patience you should not have any problems...

However... be VERY carefull with the bolts on the cylinder head. use exhaust gasket paste and (worst bit) you might well need to have it rejetted, otherwise you will not get the same power gain and also risk engine damage through a lean mixture (more airflow with no extra fuel)... if your haveing it rejeted (which you probably should) then a performance air filter is something you should consider too...

That is of course assumeing it is a performance exhaust, otherwise all you have is a very shiney expensive exhaust...

Probably worth waiting till next year to fit it. The first time the salt hits the chrome it will start to rot. Crying or Very sad

Fitting a pipe can be a bit tricky, but as long as you have the right tools and some patience, its a quick enough job. As said, you need to watch out not to damage threading on the cylinder.

Hook the thing up, take it for a short spin, (for a mile or two) then yank the plug out and determine whether it needs jetting. Chances are it might need slight adjustment as they are performance pipes.

Of course if you dont feel confident doing the job yourself, it would be best to let a mechanic do it, that way you can blame him if he buggers it up. Mr. Green

Hi, Thanks for you comments

I'm not quite sure what you mean about getting it rejetted.. could someone explain this Very Happy

Also, if i needed to get it rejetted, i would consider the new air filter. How much is one of these little gadgets likely to cost (i'm assuming not much)

Thanks

ps. Ns-Keith, you said 'yank the plug out'. What plug do you mean? I'm very inexperienced in this area Confused

No offence, but if your not sure what a jet is or how to take the spark plug out then it might be worth getting someone else to fit it.

Keep the standard filter as it won't improve the bikes performance by putting an open filter on.

It's a jet in the carb, it deturmines how much petrol is put into the mixture in the chamber. You need the mixture to be a perfect mix of petrol (from the carb) and air (from the air filter) to make the most power.

I.e if those are wrong, it's not gonna be good.

Right, so i think im going to get a proffesional to do this for me. Very Happy

So if i were to get some guy to install the exhaust, rejet it and maybe change the air filter, how much time would that take for the average professional. Hours or Days?

depends how busy they are, it'd take a skilled professional a couple of hours realistically, but remember they're being paid by the hour, so they're not in any rush.

The spark plug. When you test the mixture, you unscrew it and check the colour and condition of the bottom. An easy way to determine whether you need to adjust the mixture. (in other words, re jet)

Personally, I'd say find a scooter forum which can help you a bit better, who can recommend a suitable jet size and other necessary adjustments. Obviously, if your quite mechanically illiterate, its best not to go playing round with the carb as all sorts of problems could occur.
