I am kind of stuck Confused

It needs new clutch plates, I have taken out the lifter plate and springs, however I do not have a tool to undo the locknut. Can you get these things anywhere or is it going to be a "ring up honda and get charged loads of money" affair? Doh!

I think I can fabricate a centre holder easily enough for when I tighten it up if I need one.

Picture of the locknut and the tool that I think I need to get it off with below, I could probably use a screwdriver and hammer to get it off, but I need to tighten it back up again and don't really want to bugger anything up.

pick a wide piece of steel . drill 4 holes diameter 5 or 6 at the exact position of the grips . fit 4 bolts or solder them . then with a file adjust the ends going in the grips , that will be enough

What bike is it? Normally you don't need to undo the centre nut, just remove the springs and pressure plate and pull the plates out.

Are you just changing the plates or are you going to take out the basket too ?

A pair of grips allways works for me if they will grab the outside, if not a gentle tap with a hammer and screwdriver allways works, (A Blunt screwdriver does better) so it does not cut into it.

It is an NSR, the plates will not come out without taking this lock nut off.

Ahhhh yes I see what you mean.
Well if you can't borrow the proper tool then be carefull with the hammer and screwdriver, if you hit that basket it will shatter to bits.
I know I have done it many years ago Embarassed

What area are you in maybe I can help you out ?

In fact would a small adjustable wrench not slip into two of them slots and then you could turn it with a bar through the back off the wrench ?

Ah the joys of basket clutches. Thumbs Up I've used a hammer and screwdriver in the past for these, and for alternators Shocked

The idea of using the adjustable spanner was good, but it snapped, I could modify a combination spanner but I don't want to wreck mine. Have managed to bend a fair few bits of metal this morning Razz

Am now attacking it with a hammer and screwdriver, though it just seems to be burring the edge of the locknut over rather than undoing it Rolling Eyes

Well it all ended badly. Have been attacking it all morning, I made a tool from some meaty box section but the tabs just bent or sheared off. Made another tool seemed like it would do the job but then one of the stand offs on the clutch basket that I was using to hold it still sheared off. Nice.

Confused

can't you use a spanner (not the ring type spanner obviously, the open ended type) to slot in the 2 grooves, use a slighly bigger one tho and wedge a bit of thin cardboard in so its nice and tight and wont damage it when doing it back up?
