Just got myself a CDI unit to replace my restricted one and was wondering if anyone can tell my where to find the other one so I can replace it. .... I have had the carb out etc, but cant remember seeing it anywhere. Help would be good before I try tonight and get home to stick my head in the manual!! I also need a new coil before I run it first. Is this around the same area....?

Cheers

Not only that, the CDI is usually under the riders seat, near the battery.

On the old NSR it is under the fuel tank, on the newer fox eye models it is under the seat.

There's also the RC servo controller which is under the airbox, don't confuse that with the CDI Thumbs Up

I have changed my cdi also in my NSR! I know the other guys said it was under the seat, but to be more accurate it is just in front of the rear lights. I found it a bugger to get out unless you remove the fairing panels at the back.

Hi

The cdi units main role is to control the ignition timing. Most UK models have no restriction in the cdi unit, although the imports from some countries are restricted and some people seem to have had problems with late UK market bikes.

You can try changing it, but you need to be very certain you get the correct one. There are several people on here who have bought a replacement cdi to get round the restriction and have had it work fine for a very short time after which the cdi unit has failed. Not sure why, but my guess would be that something else needs to be changed (maybe the coil, maybe the power valve control unit), and if you don't they draw too much current and burn out some of the circuits in the cdi unit.

All the best

Keith
