hi,
The tachometer (rev counter) does not work on my bike, i know the problem its the cable coming from then engine has broken from inside. Is it worth getting a new one does the rev counter help much. I know its not legally required though.

An experienced rider will never ever need one, certain bikes do not even have one. (rev counter, that is.)

if you pull wheelies, it might help to have one that works, but otherwise you should be fine without one.

My rev counter went round the clock, getting stuck pointing at six oclock, so I unpinched the metal collar holding it together, put it right, then did it up. I forgot of course that moving the needle on the spindle would loosen it, so after about 3 miles it just fell off. Then of course, the metal collar is work hardened and now is hugely tough and brittle. Rolling Eyes I really never need it though, about the only time it would be useful would be when I'm sat at around 45 or so for an hour or so, as I can't tell if the engine's at 8000 rpm, or maybe more... Thinking

You should know whereabouts the redline is by the pitch (note) of the engine. If you know that, then you don't really need the tacho.
