Okay, so test in early Jan...

Some questions :-

The "book" says "Observation, Signal, Manouver " - AKA OSM.

If I were riding along, and wished to turn right, would I.....

Look behind me
Signal
Look behind me
Life Saver
Manouver?

Or

Look behind me
Signal
Life Saver
Manouver?

Or

Something else?

Doobs...

...... Check mirrors (Observation) to see what is behind you
...... Signal, start to slow down as well
...... Manouver, use PSL
...... Position yourself for the turn in plenty of time, remember to throw in a life saver over right shoulder before you change your position in the road
...... Speed, slow down more if needed or stop and give way to traffic on your right
...... If clear ahead and to the right (turning you want) do a Lifesaver over right shoulder before you start to turn / move (Manouver)

think you're missing "wheelie" between the signal and lifesaver part. Laughing

Dont think either of those a wrong. It cant hurt to "over check" to make sure its safe to turn. No examiner should fail you for that.

Look behind me
Signal
Look behind me
Life Saver
Manouver

This sounds about right tho.

OSM is a bit confusing because a lot can change between O and M. Best to OSOM me thinks......
Thumbs Up

I'd do

Mirrors
signal
shoulder check
position your self over to the right
mirrors
alter speed (if lights are green)
Lifesaver about 2 car lengths before junction IF light is green and tehre is no obstructions then make the turn.

THEN cancel the feckin indicator!!! Smile My only problem is cancelling to early!

I can only repeat what my instructor told me.
Before any indication or change in road position a half turn of the head. This is also before any braking. Apparently the turn of the head is supposed to be an indication to dozy car drivers something may happen (like we know how that works Confused). Then before any turn, left or right, a full lifesaver look on the side you're turning.

So it'd be:
Mirrors - check if there is anything behind.
Look - checks blind spot and indication to anyone behind.
Signal
Look - check that blind spot again
manoeuver - take up centre line position.
- remember you may have to brake/stop for oncoming traffic
Lifesaver
Turn

- and then accelerate and as said cancel indicator.

Don't think this totally true for any advanced test as the examiners look for different things and don't like you looking like a nodding dog.

HTH Smile

The way I was taught:

Right shoulder look regardless of direction you are turning
Indicate
Right/Left shoulder
Move into left/right 1/3 of lane
Slow down or stop
Right/left shoulder lifesaver
2 seconds later manouvere

After turn straighten up and giev another right shoulder and cancel indicator.

What about...

Break hard, turn and then give it some?

Would that work?

I was told to give a good long observation, signal, lifesaver, position, speed, manoeuvre.

You can get away with only a lifesaver first, then signalling and turning, as in the time it takes for that initial long observation, you could be twatted & slung up the road.

Hmmmm

question about the position, manoever...

If I check my mirrors
Rear observation
Signal
Position
Speed
Life Saver
Manoever

Would I pass or fail the test? The reason why I ask, is that if I life Safer, Position Speed Manoever, then I haven't done the Life saver before I turned....

Doobs.

If you intend to turn off a main road to the right onto another road the correct proceedure is:

Check both mirrors
Slow down
right shouldder check (NOT a lifesaver, lookj to your right, not hehind and to your right)
Indicate
Move to the right
Continue to break, get the right gear, check its clear to cross the flow of traffic
Lifesaver (this lifesaver should consist of checking both mirrors and behind and yo your right in once quick movement)
Turn.

You will also need to do the above when turning left (only look left instead of right obviously Razz) if there is a chance you could be undertaken, such as in heavy traffic or if there is a cycle lane to your left.
