after i start my bike and keep it running still for like 10 minutes and squeeze the throttle a couple time to hear it rumble and get the rpm up the temp goes up to 100. the frame on the bike feels more than warm - a lil hot . is that normal? i added coolant yesterday but i guess that didn't solve the problem. do you think i need new engine oil?

Hi

100 sounds warm but not too hot. On most bikes I would expect the fan to come on around then.

Oil will not make a great difference to how hot it runs.

All the best

Keith

I just bought the bike and I want to make sure everything is running properly and i want to keep it in good mechanical condition. I don't drive it yet, so I figure I should warm atleast a couple times a week.

But is it normal for a bike to go up to 100 after like 10 -15 mins just running? Im just imagining what if I drove it for an hour would It go any higher?? Yea when i shut off the bike , the can hear the fan working

Idea I would imagine with the bike just sitting there ticking over it would be get hotter than normal as there is no air flow cooling it down which you would get while riding

What culpan said Thumbs Up

How long till you're going to be able to ride it? If it's more than a few weeks it might be better to lay it up properly - how's your weather at this time of year?

It can do more harm than good to just warm it up and then shut it off for a week at a time. Depends on where it's stored (indoors, outisde under a tarp) as well.

I won't be ridding it anytime soon because I want to wait and take the Basic RiderCourse as I never ridden a bike before. I don't know if it was the best idea to by it now but I did.

What do you mean I should lay it up properly? Do you think I should get a tune-up or have it inspected by a mechanic or something as I boiught it used?

It is stored under a metal-type roof but is open as no covers on the side and I keep it covered.

What do you think the best thing to do...to warm it up every once in a while or just store it...whats better for the bike??

I haven't ridden it yet. I am a first timer but I can't wait to get on it. I need to learn how to work the clutch and the gears.

I got a 94 Yamaha YZF750R

when i start it, it seems like its having a hard time keeping itself running. it needle on the rpm shakes from 1rpm to the 0rpm and sometimes shuts off- then ill start it again and i would have sqeeze the throttle to keep it running. what is causing this??

That's typical behaviour for a cold engine, I wouldn't worry about that. Are you putting the choke on full before you start it though? With the choke on it should quickly start to idle at a few thousand rpm.

Probably just needs a good thrashing, Have you got a friend with 3rd party cover on other bikes that could give a good ride?

Most bikes run a bit rough when starting in the winter, Lumpy idle after it's warmed up could mean the carbs are out of sync, Could be worth getting a full service done (if it hasnt had one recently) before you pass your test?

Its hard to say till you take it for a ride, however if the temperature still stays high then it could be the thermostat, its a little doobery that controls water flow through the cooling system.

Just to be sure you might want to bleed the air (if any) out of the system.

Sorry, but it HAS to be said.........first time biker, on a yamaha YZF750R.......I hope you don't come into any trouble riding it, but having a bike THAT powerful as your first when you've never ridden before is a recipe for disaster..... Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked !!!!!

I wish you well an all with the bike, but take it very easy or buy a learner bike to get to grips with a motorcycle.
