As I am a novice at falling off my bike (the object was to stay on and ride it!)...just a question...

does it ALWAYS hurt like this ?...even if just a minor spill ?

I was going at reasonable speed...but not burning it...but today I can hardly move !!

I guess jarring the body like that will obviously have some painful consequences..

Small tasks are nigh on impossible...GOD alone knows how I coped at work today...

I have a vodka Neutral
It is not vodka o'clock yet but I need something...

A massage with Deep Heat would be nice...but my Fiance will be 'too tired' again I guess Wink

You'd be amazed how many obscure muscles you hurt falling off. Thankfully it usually only takes a few days to recover, but unfortunately it seems to be part 'n' parcel of biking.

And it sounds like you need a better fiance Twisted Evil

Yes it does hurt every time. You may not even feel that bad on the same day but the next you'll be as stiff as a brush.

It is however unfortunate as to how I know this. Sad

Yup. Every time. Bigger crashes it hurts like that for several days.

The bit I hate is when I get a dry mouth after the adrenalin has worn off, normally about 1 or 2 hours after the crash. Then the big pain kicking in an hour or two after that is never nice.

The biger your bike is the biger chance of a very painfull bining... i only ever dropped my cg at about 10 mph, and was debateing weather to wear my textile trousers or or not very morning, lucky for my legs i did!

The main thing is to get back on as soon as possible, the longer you leave it the more scarey a prospect of hoping back on will be Sad

Yeah, but you get used to it after a while.

When I come off earlier in the summer at about 30mph, I was fine apart from my shoulder which joyfully dislocated itself. The next day, I couldnt get out of bed. Every muscle in my body ached for about 2 weeks, my back especially.

I just put it down to whiplash. Rolling Eyes

You'll be fine in a few days, just need to rest. Smile

You always do muscles in when you fall off, no idea where, smallest of drops and you'll hurt yourself for some reason... I had a bit of an er indident on the WR last sunday and was aching till Wednesday and all I did was sort of get highsided off it then run into a ditch Mr. Green so even the smallest accident will hurt Smile

You wanna try highsiding at 70mph, sliding for a bit then ragdolling the last 50 yds. You think you have walked away totally uninjured but the next morning...

Oohyafucker etc.

Or going through barbed-wire fence and straight into a hillside covered in nettles. Ow.

Still made it to work the next day though.

You mentioned previously that you thought you'd fractured your finger? I should have thought that would be painful enough if it was. If it hasn't swollen up and is still moveable it's probably not broken?

It always hurts to fall off, even if it's just a bin at 15 mph. I should hope you'll be back to normal in a week or so.

I've had accidents, mainly at slow speeds (10mph - 20mph)
and no matter what happens, it hurts!!

OR

You maybe okay now but in a couple of hours, AHAHHHAHHAHA!

The last accident, which was about 3 years ago, doing about 10
mph when a white van did a U turn knocking me clean off. Buggered up my shoulder for about 2 weeks and after that I had
problems lifting my arm higher than my head, the pain was bad.

bottom line is accidents at slow speeds can hurt like hell, nice
hot baths are the answer.

It's about luck Jodie.
A couple of years ago I t- boned a car at around 50 mph, got up, had a bit of a shout, broke nothing, and felt nowt. Woke up the following day a little stiff, but with no major problems........Last week however, I stubbed my toe on my bed post, and could have cried like a little girl.

All about luck! Thumbs Up

if youve got quality gear on it doesnt necessarily involve pain.
if you tense up and hang on for dear life its more often than not gonna hurt but if you have the presence of mind to let the bike go and your bodys relaxed when you hit the ground youve got less chance of injury.
easier said than done though
couple of offs ive had have been low sides.
once on a bend and the other on a roundabout.
both times there wasnt much warning and didnt get time to react think thats why i was pretty much relaxed when i hit the ground and the bike went its own way.
only thing that hurt was my wallet

Shatterd my left wrist hitting the ground as god knows what speed :S
Hurts like hell when it gets cold Sad

Often when you crash you slightly pull/tear ligaments, muscules, tendons, or put hairline cracks into bones. These ache for a few days, but after a few weeks your back to normal.

Yeah, we seem to forget how much cartilage dislikes being compacted in a fall. This usually causes a bit of swelling in between the vertebrae which can be very unpleasant. If it wasn't much of a tumble, I'm sure you'll be fine in another day or two. Just don't overdo it with the vodka. If there is such a thing. Thumbs Up

[said while touching wood]
I've fallen off plenty of times and not hurt myself.
Infact, the only time I've hurt myself more than I have done on a push bike is when I fell of the back of a bike doing a wheely at around 60mph.

I have hurt myself plenty, but have also crashed and not really hurt myself.

Crashing at Snetterton (front end went under braking in the wet) recently I had a very slightly achey shoulder... but seemed to hurt less the next day than others that had done the full day, but had not crashed.

I've also crashed on the road a few times and not hurt myself at all. Usually when leaning the bike so I'm not so far off the road.
