By flywheel I assume you are actually meaning the alternator as opposed to the wieghts on the crank.

Try screwing the rear wheel spindle in there, they often are the same thread and will gradually pull it off with the assistance of a deadblow hammer.

Or try this at £14.99:

Which is this kind of thing (but not necessarily the same size):

There is a way of doing it if your very careful, get a small tyre lever or a big screwdriver behind the flywheel or at least as best wedged behind it as you can, apply quite a bit of pressure and give the crankshaft a good whack. I wouldnt recommend doing this a lot as it might damage the internals but it works enough to get you out of a spot of bother. Dont forget leave the nut on so you dont damage the threads.

Are there any threads in the face of the flywheel? some have a couple of around m10 m12 ideal for making a puller. simply bolt a steel bar bridging the crank and screw a bolt towards the crank, it'll pop right off no bother!!

Hi

Very surprised they are that expensive. Speak to Peter Knight on 0176 141 4106.

If this is a Rotax 123 engine (early engined RS125) then from memory the thread in the centre is a 26mm thread with a 1.5mm pitch. I could not find a suitable one except from Rotax (and I have half a dozen unsuitable ones at home).

I do have a puller and I am only up in Stafford. Not sure when I will be around in the next few days but I can certainly pop down to Oldbury with it, probably before the New Year.

I would advise against other ways of removing the flywheel. The teeth on the outside for the starter motor are not that rigidly in place, and if you damage the magnets on the inside of the flywheel then it is scrap. And they cost something like £125 new.

Why do you need to remove it? Changing the crankshaft main bearing seal or adjusting the ignition timing would be the main reasons (short of an engine rebuild). And for the second of these you need a dial gauge and adaptor as well.

All the best

Keith

Hi

Afraid I don't use MSN.

If you are changing the generator then you need o set the ignition timing properly, and to do that you need a dial gauge.

All the best

Keith

Hi

Few pics to help out.

This is the stator:-

https://www.alfa-pages.co.uk/TempPicture/aprilia_stator.jpg

As you can see there are 3 mounting holes. The holes are sloted to allow you to adjust the ignition timing. Basically once in place you slightly slacken off the screws and turn it a tiny amount then retighten the mounting screws.

This is the flywheel:-

And this is what happens when the magnets come off Shocked .

This is a dial gauge with an adaptor for a spark plug so that you can check the piston postion to set the timing (1.84mm btdc).

This is what the puller looks like:-

Final bit of the ignition system, the coil:-

All the best

Keith
