Allo!

Just been out and got myself a new helmet, upgraded from my 2yr old Shoei Raid to a sexy (and VERY light compared to my old helmet) new Shoei XR-1000 Diabolic

https://www.motobay.de/gbilder/1107107.jpg

It looks like that but in black & silver without the blue (to match my bike + jacket for tart factor!).

Wheres the best place to order a tinted visor for sunny days? Not too fussed about it being over the legal amount of tint.

Thanks people.

I got mine from Ebay: £30 (Arai). Thats £10 cheaper than any other place.

Silver gave me a link to get a visor and a free visor bag, for £35 or so. If you want to do that. Question That price was with my Arai visor.

Apart from that if you want just the visor, Ebay is tops.

www.racevisors.co.uk gets my vote. Bought off them a couple of times, no problems whatsoever.

Something to bear in mind, I was talking to Policeman at the MCN weekend is Skeggy and he mentioned that if your visor is illegal and you have an accident then your insurance company will not pay up. Seems relatively obvious, I guess, but it hadn't really occured to me Thinking

No if that is the same helmet I think it is (same as mine but different design) then I tried it on in the shop as they didn't have a Large in the colours that I wanted on the shop floor.

Hustler: Bloody good helmet isn't it. So nice and light, but my chin gets really cold. Getting my mate to nab me one of the fabric chin bits for it from his work. Very Happy
And ignore what I said about my colours being *like* that but without the blue, i've had another look at it since work and it is exactly that colour scheme. The blue doesn't stand out as much in real life as it does in the pics really.

Wrong!

They may try to apply of contributory negligence depending on the circumstances, but otherwise it would have no bearing on the level of cover or on the affect of any claim made!

It occurs to me that there is a whole raft of misinformation being put around to try and scare people out of doing things which are marginally illegal. I suppose it could have been started by insurance companies and spread by word of mouth, progressively getting worse as rumours do.

I'm just glad and thankful that we've got T.C. around to help shoot down some of these ill founded rumours. Thumbs Up Karma

Hi

Suspect there is a grain of truth in these rumours. My guess is that insurance companies have come up with these ideas when trying to refuse a claim but know that they will loose out should it go to court.

All the best

I did consider getting a tinted visor at one point, but I have prescription sunglasses which do the job sufficiently for me (but I only ride for fun, so people who travel day-to-day, for work etc. might want to invest in one)

Remember, its illegal to stick anything to the outside of the visor, but legal to stick things to the inside, so it may be cheaper to buy some kind of stick-on tinting (make sure you get all the bubbles out!)

I ride a moped with a race helmet (only one that fit me in the shop Mr. Green). I think putting a black visor on it would just be drifitng in the realms of weirdness Mr. Green

I don't know whats more disturbing, the fact that we have the same lids and I have a dark tint visor on order from RaceVisors.co.uk, or the fact I that mine was an upgraded from a Shoei Raid!!

I totally garee R1-Lad it's a great lid and well recommended. Thumbs Up (although if anyone else gets one, please get a different colour Razz )

What are you basing that on? I'm not arguing - it's a genuine question, because what he told me certainly sounds like something insurance companies would try: "Your visor is illegal, you can't see (by your own choice) and that caused the accident. We're not paying".

What am I basing that opinion on? Only the fact that I have been dealing with motorcycle accidents for the past 30 years, and for the last 10 I have been dealing with them on the civil law side (claims) where I have had to report on such issues in my capacity as an expert, and the case law that has come about as a result of such issues.

I have just dealt with such a case at court where the other side tried to to use the black visor as an issue, and the Judge laughed it out of court 0% contrib as it was in the height of summer with unlimited visibility, however, I did have a case where the rider was wearing a black visor at night in the middle of winter (pillock!) and the judge held him 20% contributory to the crash!

Does that answer it for you?

Is it shaped like that for a specific reason?
