Right, Ive just had a full engine rebuild and a new HT lead on my Speedfight 70 and it is still not cutting out for about 20 seconds affter I remove the key...

Its not coked up and self running because its a brand new engine. And its not to do with the HT lead cos thats new too...

It isnt my immobiliser because Barney checked that when I took it in... How can I stop it because Ive traced the switch back and caked it in WD40 and nothing. Shocked

Have you tried wiggling the bars from side to side when you take the key out? My Mum's old CG125 had a problem where the bike wouldn't turn off when the ignition was turned off. Wiggled the bars and it would though. A sign of a loose connection.

It can run on from anything from 5 seconds to a minute...
Ive noticed that when the scooter is cold it dosent do it. And when the engine is reving it dosent do it, But when its ticking over it runs on, and can be reved and riden without a key for some time...

I want to wiggle the bars, but when I wanted it to do it, It wouldnt Mad But tomorrow im putting my standard clutch back on because my Malossi clutch it very bitey and unsmooth. So ill get all the front farings off and check all the wiring again...

But its bugging me because I dont know what is causing it...

Wotcha.

Here's something easy to try.
When it's ticking over, simply pull the plug cap off.
If it stops immediately, then it's wiring related, if it carries on running then it's fuel / pre-ignition due to red hot carbon related.
At least that gives you a 50 / 50 head start in tracing the problem.

My trike has a solenoid valve in the pilot circuit of the carb which cuts fuel off as soon as the ignition is turned off - this is supposed to prevent over running.

Nah. Sad They dont do Kill switches on the scooters...

Just for security reasons. Can this problem make my scooter easier to start without a key?

Ill try pulling too the HT lead today and see if it runs on... I wouldnt of thaught so though because its a brand new cylinder (Less than 10 miles)...

Right - you now know that it isn't a 'mechanical' problem.
My best guess would be a broken wire / dodgy connection between the ignition switch and the CDI unit ( or whatever fires the thing ).
You'll find that when you turn the ignition off, a pair of contacts open, in order to 'kill' the lights etc. - and a pair of contacts close, which earth out the CDI unit and stop the engine.
Should those contacts fail to close, or if the wire is broken, then the engine will carry on running as though the ignition is still turned on.
I'd suspect any wire that can move with the steering.
Time for a bit of wiggling and continuity testing Wink

A naughty trick we used to do on older Hondas was to put a live feed on the black and white wire which came from the CDI unit.
Then watch the fun when you turn the ignition off - the thing just carries on running, even the kill switch wouldn't stop it. Trouble is, if you do that, then you've killed the CDI unit as far as turning it off goes. Embarassed

Has anyone ever "messed" with the wiring or added anything either, say an immobilizer?

Erm. All I know is that a green wire and a yellow wire (Leading from CDI unti to a box connector and then to 2 dead wires with nothing on them) I suspect this was from the automatic choke and now it has a 21mm carb its got a manual choke...

I also changed over my Switch gear when I first got the bike but they were connected by 2 Box plugs too...

And the last 1 is a live feed from the alarm to the indicators...

That narrows it down some. It is either the ignition switch, the wire running to the ignition switch, the wire from the ignition switch to earth or a bad earth connection from this wire.

The latter is most likley.
