 |

Me and my friends decided to change the rear tire since we bought the bike 2months ago and it's second hand. So like the nice noobs we are we decided to do burnouts... try actually ... After each of us tried a few times we gave up. Then my friend was like your always reading things on that forum of yours. I told him yea I read a tutorial, front break in all the way feet on ground just in case. Rev up to 6k then release clutch... sadly it didn't work with me. Anyway he kept on trying and now I think the clutch is ....well fucked! The bike wont accelerate after 4k on first gear. Tried to pull the clutch in a bit, changed gears..nothing changed. Lucky for me I was intending to take the bike out for repair on wednesday. How much would it cost to fix this problem? What was I doing wrong? The rear spun a few times, the other few it was moving forward . ____________________ Kawasaki ZZR 400 | K5 GSX-R 600 |

It's a burnout, not rocket science! front brake on fully then accelerate and let the clutch out, bingo one spinning wheel! ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

It depends on the bike. Initially you may need to feather it a bit to get it going, but once you are used to doing them it should be fine.
More likely the clutch was already on the way out and this just finished it off.
On my zx9 you don't need to use the clutch at all... doing a rolling burnout you just increase the front brake pressure as you turn the throttle without touching the clutch . |

Yams: Smaller motors need much higher revs to produce enough power to break traction, which is very hard on the clutch, especially the smaller clutches on such bikes. Besides, when you're taking off from a light, you're probably using about 2000rpm and the clutch is having some success at getting the wheel spinning. When doing a burnout, the clutch is working against a stationary object at much higher rpms. In this sepecific case, FE states that a number of people had a go at it. Seems like the clutch might have sustained some damage in such strenuous conditions, though I don't think you stated otherwise.
Apparently I was wrong about no one arguing on the side of the burnout.
As always, don't hesitate to point out any errors I've made as I'm admittedly not the brightest.

I would recommend letting it slip at first. Once your comfortable with it, dump away. That's how I did it, anyway.
Sitting on the bike while trying to get the wheel to spin is a major no-no. Feel free to have a seat once you get it going, but to get it to spin in the first place, you want to keep as much weight off the rear as possible. ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/californiarookie/04gsxr600/

Alright, thanks a lot for the help. However what's been happening with me is sometimes the bike sort of jumps forward. What if I'm standing and it jumps . And I would like to say ARE YOU INSANE!! I CAN'T WAIT TO GET A GIXXER AND YOUR DOING BURN OUTS WITH IT! ____________________ Kawasaki ZZR 400 | K5 GSX-R 600 |

I wouldn't have thought a zzr400 would have that much low down torque, being an inline 4 400cc.
If you are trying to do stationary burnouts...
Stand up, pull the front brake on and maybe put a bit of pressure on the bars to help aid front end traction. Try to keep your weight off the bike apart from the front end.
To get used to it you will have to slip the clutch a bit. On a clutch that has life left this shouldn't be a problem, only likely to cause trouble if the clutch is already on the way out.
Start slipping the clutch as you would to make a quick getaway, but keeping the front brake hard on. Give it quite a lot of revs and let the clutch out slowly. If the bikes starts to stall, give it more revs until the rear starts to spin a bit. Once it starts to move smoothly let it out all the way.
If you are trying to do 'rolling' burnouts...
Start going along slowly, then do the same procedure to get it spinning. You however have to control the brake to keep the speed correct, so you can't just grab a big handfull.
I try to keep all my weight over the front by standing up around the tank and leaning down on the front. See: here for an example. |

Oh and yes the zzr 400 isn't great at low revs . If your own first gear you feel like the bike doesn't accelerate fast untill your at like 6k but after that it's fast fast enough for me since I'm still new. ____________________ Kawasaki ZZR 400 | K5 GSX-R 600 |

I'm not saying it's slow. It's a really nice bike! Heavy though... It's fast really i just don't ull throttle everywhere but I've noticed that below 6k the power doesn't come out as smooth. I feel gay . I want gixxer 600 2005 model, black and red! Hell I saw a 636 today for sale, isn't that a nice bike! and the sound is just . And the tacho goes up a lot faster than my zzr doesn't it . ____________________ Kawasaki ZZR 400 | K5 GSX-R 600 |

True, but I'm sure all the bikes you just listed look nicer than a ZZR. Hell I'm just glad I gave it a nice black paintjob... Are you suggesting a dirt bike ? ____________________ Kawasaki ZZR 400 | K5 GSX-R 600 |
