Hi,

I fitted some Oxford Hotgrips to my Nsr, which knock out the indicators, then in the process of working out why this was, flatten my battery. So I disconnected them!! Over the next few days I had a few problem.

Firstly the battery wouldn't hold any charge after the bike was taken on a run for a while, this problem cleared up over the next two days.

But now my bike is stalling on me, if i'm at a junction the revs will fall on and the engine will stop. Plus its seems to have lost it's poke i.e the power vale is less effective??

The clutch now seems not to be disengaging when the lever is pull, and when the lever is pull with the bike in gear, the rear wheel is not free but engaged. I can't remember if it ever been free when I've tried this before.

I,ve had the bike 5 months

Any Ideas Please??

Thanks

How many miles has the bike done? has it had any rebuilds? it might be stalling and losing power due to needing one, probably best to get a compression test done.

As for the clutch, I would adjust the cable if it has not been done before, as this will stretch. You want about 1cm - 2cm of free play on the clutch lever. Use the adjuster by the lever, or if it needs more then adjust it at the top of the right crank case cover.

i am thinking about valves stocked by carbon , have a good look on the servo pulley (on the right side underneath the tank , it's visible)
watch the cables if they stay straight when you start and when you go up in revs . otherwise control your pilot screw on the carb tigh and untigh 2 1/2 rounds . then when engine hot , move your throttle screw until 1500 rpm (probably your idle is too low)

Stalling whilst idling and general poor running can also be attributed to mucky carburettors. Turning up the idle speed is a temporary fix at best. Removing the carburettor without damaging any rubber, taking it to pieces and blowing through the jets with compressed air to remove crap from them is the way to go.

You could do with fitting a in-line fuel filter if it is full of crap, these cost pennies apparently. (Thanks to Lonewolf or Stinkwheel for that one, I can't remember who exactly it was.)

As far as cleaning out the carburettor body, I just used kitchen roll and some white spirit. Embarassed It worked though. (CG125).

id say that it is almost certainlly a coincidence that this happend after the grips where fitted. you say the battery is fine now so thats not a problem.
clean out your carbs as that is probably the cheapest and easiest thing to do that could be causing this, dont rebuild the engine unless you have tried everything else.

Hi,

It's getting worse, now I keep running out of fuel, I switched to reserve tank an it was empty in about 6 mile, its drinking fuel. (not the first time)

I heard the carb my be block where the tank was run empty the other day?

I adjusted the clutch cable at the crank area, its better but I think maybe the springs are on there way out, as i don't think its pulling the lever back that well.

thanks

If it is drinking fuel, cutting out and has poor performance then it could possibly be a stuck choke.

Hi

If you run out of fuel then it makes it far more likely that you will pull rubbish from the bottom of the tank into the carb. One small piece of grit can stick the needle valve open which will flood the bike. As a precaution make sure you turn the petrol off when you park the bike.

All the best

Keith

Ok had the carb off today, that was fun first time for me undergoing this type work on a bike. Couldn't seem any crap in there.

Also checked to see if the rc valve was opening, which it was so not that.

Noticed it already had a petrol filter on

As this is my first winter with the bike or any bike, what sort of affects will or could the weather have on the bike, engine wise?

Thanks

Well it's bloody freezing so the bike will take ages to warm up, if it is cold then it will stall easily and be down on power, many people block off half of the radiator with some cardboard or similar so the cooling system is less effective

And remember it is easy to seize the engine in this weather if you thrash it when cold, will take a good few miles to get up to temp.

Hi,

Well I took the carb apart and it seemed ok, the bike is running okish at the mo, power still seem not right. the only other thing I noticed recently, that when you first start the bike then pull away the power seems to me better, but as you ride on reduces??

Any Ideas? Rolling Eyes

Thanks

Does your bike have choke? And if so, how are you using it?

my wifes nsr had a problem similar. It was the choke NOT turning off properly. I'd check that if I were you. I had to stretch the little spring at the carb end to make it turn fully off even after fitting a new cable.

This is a very interesting thread. My fiencee's fz600 does the same damn thing. We'll be running fine then after parking up for a while, getting back on the thing starting'll be a bit strained, then it'll just cut out at low revs and the battery'll be almost completely flat. After a recharge it'll be fine for a few days, then all of a sudden, the bugger will just die again.

It's lost power too, just like gman3000's bike, and when the revs drop and it cuts out, it's because the revs are hard to keep up.

I can only assume it's a short somewhere that flats the battery, and I would again, only assume, the engine will constantly need a spark when the revs drop thus the trouble with the performance drop. She's dropped it countless times (women) so I think she's bent the rear brake pedal in, thus the rear light stays on sometimes.

Feel free to shoot me if I'm wrong, just thought it might help others if it's right??
