Is a 600s cool enough for a 23 yr old - or is it one for the born agains?

Heres a few pics of one particular well looked after example

I quite like the faired Bandit, looks kinda mean.

Also it depends how/when you ride, if its just short journies in the summer then unfaired will suffice.
But if your riding longer distances in summer/winter etc, then faired would be your best bet.

Nothing wrong with a bandit, they just look a little middle of the road to me.

If you're gonna go for a semi faired(?) 600, I think the new style SV650 looks smart, but the old style fazers still look nice as well.

One for born again bikers?????

Course not!!! Superb bike, prefer the faired one over the unfaired one. Although unfaired is better for customising Very Happy

i like the look of the sv650s but the riding position is quite far over the bars. The seat also seems pretty firm and ive heard theyre very revvy (being a twin) Ive just sold a GS500 and was looking for a bit more grunt.

Unfaired all the way. Mind you I'm the wrong person to ask for an objective opinion as I love the naked sports bikes/tourers. The bandits are an awesome bike. There's a Bandit 400 going near where I live, and although I'm considering a 600 it is still pretty tempting.

Hi

Nice enough bikes, and the engine is basically a GSXR750 engine so can be easily bored out to not far short of 900cc.

You get used to the wind pressure. Rode my unfaired 1200 Bandit to the south of France with no problems.

All the best

Keith

Agreed.

When I first got me ER-5 it felt like my arms were getting ripped off.

Now I don't even notice it (unless it's REALLY windy outside).

Get an unfaired one and then fit an after-market flyscreen - I think that is the best look.

And make it a 600, not a 400 as you will get bored too quickly. In fact, you may get bored anyway.

If I had to chose my first bike again, I think I'd have gone for an older ZXR6 instead of the fazer (old style) 6.

What is bored though? Not going fast enough? I'd have thought more or less any bike larger than 250 goes fast enough. People won't do 100+ all that frequently will they? They might get bored of the lack of acceleration, because it takes them 5 instead of 3.5 seconds to get to 60? Confused

Any reasonably quick riding on a decent handling bike which can do the ton, on decent twisty roads, is fun. Surely the main issues of whether you get bored of your bike are whether you can find the right roads, or if it breaks down all the time?

Of course, if it only does 60, handles like a mule, cannot beat most cars at the lights if they try; regularly breaks parts and sheds pieces like confetti, then you've got every reason to be bored with it. Just I need to get my full licence (and some more money) to move on up.

I would get the Bandit 6, unfaired though. IIRC, the 400 is pretty much the same just with a sleeved down engine? Whilst the fairing might be pretty useful to begin with, as people say, you'll get used to the wind given time, and I think the naked bike looks better anyway. Smile

The 400 is a completely different motor, the early ones were based on the GSX400 motor from the 80's and the later ones had VVTi too.

And as I said before it would totally depend on the mileage he does and the type of roads he rides.
Also I would like to point out that I found the bandit 600 to be very bland when I rode it. OK, it accelerated and stopped well but it just didn't have that edge to it.
