Hi everyone,

Dont know if anyone can help but basicly i went away to college and left my bike lying in the shed for about a month. When i got back it was completely dead. I have taken the engine to bits cudent see anything wrong-plenty compression etc. put a new plug in and its spaking well, took the carb off cleaned it out. Reed block out nothing wrong there either. i dont know anything about electrics but i thought if there was spark it would at least fire?

has anyone got any ideas?

Regards Ross

Try bump starting it Idea

I assume you have a haynes manual, check all the service items, i know there is one because I have the very same manual!

Ckeck the fluid level in the battery, check earth points.

Take the pipe off the fuel tap and see if petrol is coming out, (attach the pipe to a fuel can instead).

Dont open the throttle while trying to start it, as that will provide too much air and it wont start.

If all else fails put new petrol in.

Have you actually done a compression check?

The Dt125r shares most of its parts with the tzr, it just has a slightly different shape airbox...

thanks for the info, when i say dead its not completely you hear a slight fire every time you kick, the battery has actually always been flat on the bike but it used to start as long as it was connected.
Havent done a compression check but it actually started once after taking it all to bits then putting it back together so obviously i thought ad cracked it so i swithched it off then tried it again and no joy! Sad

Change your battery it's probably knackered now as it's not giving a good enough charge off the battery and if it's less than 10volts showing on a multiimeter when it should actually be about 12volts, but do also check it's fluid level is between the minimum & maximum marked on the side of it. If it is below 10volts, then do a recharge and check the readings again and if it still doesn't get above 10volts then it is knackered!!!

It actually stated that in the Haynes manual about if the bike's battery is shown less than 10 volts then recharge. A good battery has about 12 volts coming off it.

battery has 6 elements , each produce 2.2v end of charge , so 2.2x6=13.2 , down to 12.8 it's a sign of a tired bat

Have you ever heard of margins of error because no measurement is exact, it's only approximate as no manufactured item can be exactly 100% reproduced as a perfect replica of the original due to minute differences in tolerances in products. So that is why we have margins of error +/-

Your getting compression and a spark. SO the only other factors are air and fuel, i suggest you make sure the fuel line is clear and the petrol in the tank is ok and the petrol tap too. The battery wont make too much difference on a dt, as you said, its had a flat for ages.

I suggest you try bump starting it.
