I want more top speed on my speedfight 2, I have read that removing the gearing restrictor in the variator body will improve the speed.. Will I be able to do this myself... I'm not to good with mechanics.. but how hard is it? Also what are the down sides to this operation?

No downside to it. Will gain a fair bit of speed and should be simple enough to remove. There is a guide thingy on this site that was stolen from another site!

Cheers mate, is it the same assembly and parts on a speedfight 2?.. I'm also not too sure if it has the correct rollers in... it has a zx leo vinci pipe but I brought it 2nd hand so I'm not too sure what's been put into it in terms of rollers.. If I wanted to get a "gear up kit" after... would taking the plate from the variator hinder this possibility?.. How much would a motorbike shop charge to take the plate from the variator and check the rollers are the correct weight or make or whatever to gain maximum speed?

Ok. For the restrictor. its simple enough if you have the knowledge/correct tools.
Unless you have an impact wrench/Air gun or a flywheel puller, I wouldnt attempt it yourself as you have very little chance of getting the front hub off the variator.

A garage will charge around £35 an hour. The minimum they will charge is a 1 hr fee. It takes me about 10 minutes to do a roller change. So I presume a garage would take about that time, But In the book its down as a 1 hour job. So they will charge you around£35 + Parts + VAT.

So you are looking at £50 (If you need rollers fitting)

The ZX pipe usually comes with 4.5g rollers and 5.2g rollers

The 4.5g rollers make your revs pick up a bit quicker but the mid range is usually a bit flat. The 5.2g rollers will give you slightly slower rev pick up but you will have a much smoother mid range. (Well that was what I had)
