 |
|
Hi all,
I am thinking of getting a scotoiler for my bike but have a few questions to anybody that has one.
1.) Do they stick out like a sore thumb? I dont want something hanging off the side of my bike ruining the look.
2.) Somebody told me that a lot of oil gets sprayed on the swing arm and I dont wanna be constantly cleaning it off.
Any comments welcome.
Cheers |

My Scottoiler is fitted under the seat on my GS500 and is barely noticable down at the sprocket. The back wheel and swing arm get a bit mucky but its preferable to an unlubricated chain.

I've had some trouble with the Scottoiler. First off, position the pipe that feeds the oil to the sprocket well away from the sprocket nuts and the chain. They say to position it 2mm above the chain. 5mm is probably better. I've found that you have to bend the pipe by putting it under a lighter first, and kinda curl it onto the sprocket. It took me about six attempts over four months to get this right. I've had many problems with the pipe getting stuck in the chain/caught on a nut and being yanked out.
Second thing, make sure you secure the RMV to the swingarm well. I hit some roadworks at night once and ended up with a crack down the RMV, which led to oil all over the swingarm and not on the chain. They replaced it under warranty though.
It is very easy to tuck out of sight, all you can see on mine is the RMV above the swingarm and a blue pipe going to the rear wheel, very neat. If you meter the amount of oil right you should not have any problems with it going everywhere (unless the RMV cracks of course ) ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/fuzzbcf/

They are a worthwhile accessory and you can tuck them away neatly if you wish (although this makes it more difficult to fill.)
In my opinion, fitting one doesn't ruin the 'look' of a bike anyway. More gives the impression that "Here is someone who uses their bike and knows what a good bit of kit is.". Did I mention the BHP increase? They increase your BHP at the back wheel.
You do get splatter on the back wheel and swingarm, it washes off OK though and keeps it from rusting. Saves you a fortune in chains and sprockets. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Is that not just chain wax
When you're riding big miles, 400 miles sounds about right for a lube anyway, (though I do try to at 200 miles). |
