125 race reps be goode, but one payeth many pieces o' eight for them. ye old insuraance coste loads on 125s aswell.
ye mai choose an olde 125 4 stroker for practice. but ye be crappe also. insurance ye cheepe. goode for practicing
i did nay buy a learner bike coz i couldn't be assed to spend my gold coins. i saved mai coins, for the learneed lessons. then my boye, i bought a 400cc.
i perthink the rs125 be the beste 125. it goeth like a speeding arrow, and be nimble like our good kings wee dags.
Choose wisely young minion, your hard earned golden coins are on the line... |

AR125.
Why? Because it's the only (working) 2 stoke 125 I've tried.
Mine also sounded like a chainsaw, did 80+ MPH and was generally great fun to ride, though it didn't work that often.

The NSR is actually pretty reliable providing you keep it properly maintained; so about the same as a 4 stroke.
Go for an older model and you could buy two and have one as a spare . Insurance will also be cheaper and they will accelerate ok as well as be able to sensibly cruise at motorway/dual carrigeway speeds with some power left in reserve. |

| Quote: | if I could have any 125 it'd probably be an NSR, because id expect it to be more reliable than an italian machine.. |
Absolute bullshit. I have a Mito, I know someone with a Rs125, I also know people with an Rs50 and a Derbi GPR50, all european and no real problems. I know of someone with an nsr who has had at least as many problems.

400
bike: £1000
insurance: £800 (cbr400 tpft)
test: £320
restriction: £200
total: £2320
(thats working off me having 3 points on my licence on insureance quotes)
so you save money, plus can take pillions, plus can go on motorway, plus can go faster and have a better sounding more reliable bike. and that was working on a cheap 125 bike as well. i've got my test booked for this month. but i'm certainly not going to bother with a 125.
|
Erm, NO.
Any 400 you can get for £1000 will be a complete wreck and basically just an embarrasment. A remotely decent sport 400 (Must be sports else it's not a fair comparison) will be £2000+.
Taking pillion's requres extra insurance so you'll need to add that onto the budget.
It will be slower than a 125. 33bhp, the same as an Rs125 or Mito, yet alot heavier, and due to the acient styling of nearly all 400's (another down side in itself) it will be less areodynamic.
Oh, and Mito's have MORE top end then Rs125's due to the way that they are geared, so thats something else you got wrong. ____________________ Right bunch of arrogant stuck up twats. - Someone with a brain talking about BCF members. |

I don't really see the point in the RS and mito, alot of money for a bike that isn't really that great? they look ok, you might think they are cool, but the majority of people think your a bit of a twat when they hear it!
Also none of them are amazingly fast, and how many people keep their 400's at 33bhp I would choose a tatty 400 over a tinny little 125 anyday I think john got his 400 for well under a grand, and it has been solid so far.
I went the route of the old battered NSR, it will take longer but no way could I afford a shiney bike anyway, oh and about the reliability, none of the 125 strokers are that reliable. However I think the important thing is parts availability, and the NSR wins hands down compared to the italian machines.

Right so your personal experiance makes you the judge of which bike is most reliable Honda are kinda well known for reliability Italian bikes, well |
