Fairing Repair

Hey

Can anybody recommend a place where I can get my hayabusa's fairing repaired? Just a couple of light scratchs that I want to get rid of.

Yeah I'll fix it for ya... (I'm building a busa and need parts ). Honestly I'd do it yourself mate. Get a good project pack of sandpaper / wet 'n' dry from halfords and get cracking. I'll have a guess it's the right hand panel that is damaged? Usually it is. Also colour match isn't a big problem, take the panel to them (halfords) and they'll give you a tin the same. Just make sure you lacure it well and polish it back after-wards.

On a similar subject, is there anything i can use to strengthen my fairing. After my recent incident, repairing the fairing with glue wasnt sufficient enough, and it cracked again while riding. This may be because my knee touches it while riding.

Plastic welding, use cable ties as welding rod's
(do a serach on here to get better instructions)

I've found clear Araldite to be good/the best for fixing cracks. The only time the cracks ever come apart is when the bike goes down again. Sturdy stuff. Superglue is no good compared: just flakes off and the crack will open up again soon if bothered.

Scratches: light sanding to get a smooth surface, prepare and spray/touch up.

You can buy "plastiweld" chemical from modelmaking shops, works fine on abs.

The Ride magazine had a novel idea;

Get hold of a soldering iron

With the broken fairing removed

Line the two pieces together and glue the two broken edges together again and spot weld it together with superglue on the back of it.

Using the soldering iron run along the break and melt the two pieces back together but watch out you don't melt the paint on the other side. This will make it a stronger fix.

If you don't want to do it yourself - give PlasTech in reading a call. They repaired my fairing from some quite severe damage, and you wouldn't know the difference. They charged £200 to respray a whole panel, including repairing three seperate lage cracks, and a hole - also they cut holes in both fairing panels and fitted my crash mushrooms for me - which is why it sounds expensive.

Their number is usually in the back of performance bikes, but I can dig it out if you need me to.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.
