Hi I'm sure I've asked this before but it never got fully answered.
My scooter exhaust is blocked with carbon which is hampering acceleration to even more dangerous speeds than a normal 50cc.

I managed straighten out a coat hanger and stick that up the pipe I removed a fair bit of carbon and has already made a noticable diffrence in acelleration but I wondered is there anything else I can do to decarbonise it without taking the exhaust off as the bolts have seized and I really cant afford to take it to a mechanic at the moment.

The only good ways I know of doing it would involve removing the exhaust. ie. Setting it on fire or filling it up with caustic soda. Both of which would not do much good to the rest of the bike.

Obviously if it has removable baffles, remove them and treat as above but a lot of mopeds don't these days.

Other than that, I can only suggest a sustained flat-out blast...but you probably do that all the time anyway.

Hi, what with it being only a 50cc it is pretty much full throttled all the time yeah & it doesn't have a removable baffle no. Where would the main build up be apart from the baffle would there be any in the pipe itself?

Depends on the system but it is usually mostly on the baffle. It fills in the holes drilled in the baffle core to let the gas out.

You can get some sludge in the bottom but it is the solid carbon physically blocking parts that causes the problem.

Ok cheers, I'll have another go with the coat hanger for now because it definatly helps & gets a load out. I also wonder will what I'm doing damage it?

It shouldn't providing it is a standard silencer that has a tube with holes drilled in it for a baffle.

Some sports systems have fibre packing in them or little semi-circular baffle plates welded across the inside. It is possible these could be damaged by poking at them.

Oven cleaner works well at getting rid of carbon deposits, but not sure how it would affect the baffle.
