Some times I've left the kill-switch on 'off' setting as an additional security measure, fool inbred thieves etc. However, doing so has just caused me some grief.

Basically my bike wouldn't start off the start button or from bump-starting, yet every now and then would start first push of the button. Suggesting it had ignition and starting problems. Last night I took the kill-switch apart and there was some oxidation on one of the terminals in the switch. This terminal made up a circuit, that if wasn't connected, would stop both the starter and ignition circuits firing. This terminal is always covered by the switch when it's left in the on position, so wouldn't have oxidised at all had I not left the switch in the 'off' position'. Doh!

Sorry to bore you, just worth keeping in mind to save yourself the hassle I had.

Hi

Ouch. Nice one to catch you out. Mind you, 10~15 years of this before a problem is not bad going.

All the best

Keith

I'd have thought that the more often you operate a switch the better it'll work, as you're continually 'wiping' the contact faces clean. Leave it in one position and the exposed face could get a covering of verdi-gris so when you actually need it it won't conduct properly

I have heard that all kill switches are delicate, so only use it in emergency situations.

The way the kill-switch is wired on the NC30 means that if a terminal does get corroded the bike won't start or run full-stop. The starter and ignition circuit relies on it. It's not a case of it not working when you need to use it Smile

Don't think I've ever used my kill switch.

Used to HAVE to on my old 125 since taking the key out of the ignition didn't switch it off Laughing

Nice one Maurice, i'll take that on board, I've ALWAYS put on my kill switch regardless of situation, but now i'm thinking why bother when i have a hefty lock and chain on the rear looped around some object But yeh - could this be the demise of "killswitch - engage"? sorry a bit of a crap joke eh? Razz
