Right, that's not my exact bike, but I'll assume the dimensions are the same.

I just want some advice on tyres, I think I have a sport pilot or something to that effect on the front, but I'm not against replacing that aswell.

I want something sticky enough for me to throw this bike around like I used to throw my 125 around, with the possibilty of my slider hitting the deck.

But I don't want anything tooooo sticky, as I'm going to be using this beast every day. (although not major mileage).

Any recommendations? My mum's got an XJ900 with an 010 on the back. But then the rear tyre on that is much much fatter than mine.

BT45's are a *reasonable* tyre. They offer good grip and are quite good mileage wise. I think you'll struggle to find anything super sticky to be honest in a 140 profile, you might get lucky and get some 208's or something, but personally I wouldn't bother, if you're chucking the bike around that much, you're on the wrong type of bike, you might be better off selling it and getting a sport 600.

Hi

Put BT45s on my Divvy before I sold it. Worked well.

A 140 is oversize on the Divvy.

All the best

I agree BT45 are good tyres, dual compound so they last but are sticky enough to throw about. They get a little twitchy after about 100 miles then quickly settle down again after another 50 miles when you put them on a GPZ500s.

bit off topic but it only needs 1 reply.

Also, 110 is recommended, what would be the consequences of putting a 140 on there? I assume that's a measurement of the width of the tyre?

Hi

With a 140/70 HR 18, the 140 is the width in mm, the 70 is the profile (depth) as a percentage of the width, the H is the speed rating, the R is for radial and the 18 is the rim size it fits in inches.

Sticking a 140 on a rim sized for a 110 tyre would probably give you fairly hideous handling. You would probably be OK on a 120 and maybe even a 130 but a 140 tyre is 3cm wider than the stock tyre. That extra size will result in the tyre being quite deformed to fit.

Realistically a 110/70 would probably have a 3" rim while a 140/60 (as close to the same outside diameter as is readily available) is designed for a 4" rim.

All the best

Keith

Somethings telling me a 130 is the right size for a Divvie. Try Bridgestones website for a fitment guide. They'll probably recommend the BT45, which is supposed to be pretty good. Good life and shape.

140 is quite a lot wider than 110 (IIRC it referrs to the width of the tyre in mm). It would muck up the handling and may not even fit on the rim. There is no need to fit a wider than standard tyre unless you are suffering from loss of traction under power (unlikley on an XJ600)

Bridgestone recommends (from their own website):

I've got that exact info in a .txt file on my desktop ready for when I phone up the tyre place.

By my calculations it should set me back ~£60. I've got a spare back wheel atm (it was cheaper than buying and fitting new wheel bearings..) So I'll just take that down and get the BT45 110/70 on that.

Lovely stuff, thanks guys.

Fairly certain you are correct, and Dunlop no longer seem to list the tyres mentioned at the start of this thread. For the Divvy rear they list a D103A Arrowmax as a 130/70 - 18 63H (ie, not a radial, but then nor is the BT45).

All the best
