back end cornering confidence

Hi all,
After my crash on monday with the backend disappearing on me, i have a major lack of confidence in my cornering. i went for a ride with Davo today to boxhill (Cheers davo for taking it slowly!!!) and i was all over the place as i have no confidence in my my riding to keep the backend staying stuck to tarmac! coming into corners my lines where all wrong and i was only leaning over about a degree and was very rigid!! on the way back it got a little better but still there is a lot of unsureness! this was not helped by me coming to a tight slip road from the A23 to the A27 just out side brighton and going over a white left turn arrow on the road and feeling the back slide! not sure if i am just imagining it or it actually happened.
So my question is what are peoples experiences for geting there confidence back after an off, and and suggestions for corning (apart from not going over painted white lines!)

Take it slowly and don't rush it, confidence will come back in time. Possibly think about changing your tyres too if that's what you have no faith in. I used to have no faith riding in the wet cause I thought my tyres gave no grip. I'm still far from fast but I can lean over about 10 degrees now.

Just ride, there's no miracle cure. In my experience it happens after every spill, something doesn't feel quite right and it's hard to tell if it's the bike, the conditions, or you......... it's usually you. It'll pass, just keep riding and give it time.

i havent had an off

but i have had the bike slide out round a corner on diesel and then grip again

and had the back wheel slide out on a roundabout a few times


and the front slide out a bit



you have to try and put it out of your mind


try and look out for where it might happen


and then take it slow



nothing wrong with riding slowly round roundabouts in the wet



your confidence will build up again in a while

Came off twice last year.I don't know why it happened the first time but i do know why it happened the second. You can learn from your mistakes if you know why you made them but its a bit of a bastard when you don't.
Saying that, the confidence comes back anyway sooner or later as long as you don't rush into it. Sounds like you've got a good mate who obviously realises what you're going through and willing to give you the time to find your limits again. Good luck!

I had the same position as you late last year and it did the exact same to me! I was so annoyed and frustrated at why i could no longer ride properly
I continued to go out and take things easy in all conditions until eventually i started to feel more confident in my ability. Imo if you put in the miles you will get back your confidence and also i think weather can affect you too. My crash was in wet so was poor in wet however the dry weather made me feel safer and more confident.

its funny that, I have come off 4 times in last 5 months lol. All on the racetrack loosing the front in the wet. The more I crash it the less time it takes to get the confidence back. The shock from crashing wears off after a couple of times. I just think about the ammount of grip the tyres give and then Im right to go again. I seem to have no problem with the back, in fact I like to have it sliding about abit lol, tells you when you are reaching the tyres limit. And it feels cool to have the back end weaving about. Haven't mastered it in the dry though, with those Bridgstone slicks I use, if the tyre does loose grip... your off as you have to be pushing it so hard to loose grip then you have no chance to correct it. Although Ive never come off in the dry. You could try hanging off a bit in the wet on the road, keeps the bike that bit more upright and gives you a bit more confidence.

Get the tyre pressures done.
Felt the exact same way about my bike and I didn't know whether it was the bike or my imagination. For awhile I was blaming on myself thinking I must be a shit rider, got the pressures done and it sorted everything out.

not sure.
bought it 3 weeks ago secondhand and haven't checked that out, how would having non standard ones affect things? just know that both tyres have decent depth tread on them

Those could be race slicks meant for dry track use on there for all you know.....
Did you have the pressures checked or did the guy you bought it off tell you he did it?
Did he change the suspension set up in any way?

Don't know about that bike, is it a trailie type? if it is it isn't that suited to hard cornering but that's not really what your doing is it.

If it's not a personal question, are you a fat cunt?

It really does sound like under pressured tyres to me. What damage was done in your accident? Rear wheel could be out of alignment.

I had an xj600 years ago, not a divvy but one of the original late 80's ones. Cant say I ever had a problem with the back end, but the front used to feel like it was pushing & running wide if you tried to go a bit hard in the corners. I doubt its a problem with the bike as you could stick a half decent club racer on it & they would grind the footrests into oblivion without breaking into a sweat. If you've had an off then I would suggest that you're probably all tense when riding. Try to relax & the confidence will come back.
