If you have one, how do you take your bike off the centre stand?

I thought of starting this topic after reading something in another!

I usuall sit on mine and kind of push / bounce it forward then pull on my front brake?

Exactly the same.

I always do it from sitting on it, because if it decides to fall away from you while you're standing next to it, you're up the proverbial creek.

Thats the way I used to do it....It's not really the way they train you to do it on the cbt or when in training. And you can't do it when your bikes pointing up an incline either....

Now, with the er5, I put my right foot onto the centre stand peg, left hand on the bar and right hand on the back of the bike. Pushing down on the peg and to the left with my arms, that usually take s it off the centre stand. BUT I ALWAYS still apply all my weight onto the centre stand peg when its just about down as that way it's still resting on the centre stands feet but easily enough to lift your foot and the bike can be pushed to the desired location....

or something like that....Thats the best way I find. I never put both hands on the handlebars as if you keep your weight on the centre stand peg, it won't be going anywhere. Basically, do it slowly and it's nae bother.

I used to stand next to it, put one foot in front of the stand to stop it sliding on the ground and just yoink it forward off the stand. I'd use one hand on the rear grabrail and one on the bars, and could shift the grabrail hand to the front brake mid-yoink if need be.

There's no real reason for it to fall away from you as long as the bars are straight, unless you're on some serious camber.

What I used to do with my Tomos was get it started on the stand, wait 'till it came off the choke then sit on the bike with my feet on the pegs. Wind the throttle open so the back wheel is giving it big licks then lean back so the back wheel hits the road. Wheeeeeeee.

These days I tend to just grab the handlebars and shove it forwards off the stand, from next to the bike if I am going to be moving it about or from astride the bike if I am going to be riding it.

If the bike is heavily loaded I sometimes have to do it with one hand steadying the bar and lift it down off the stand with the other hand under the rack.

On my Bandit, I always put the side stand down, then pull it foward with my right hand under the seat.

Once down just pull over to rest on side stand.

With the sidestand down, I stand on the left hand side of the bike with the wheel turned towards me and and grab the handlebar and grabrail and push it off the stand and then lean it onto its sidestand.

I used to sit on my GPZ and rock it forward until I took it for its MOT and the guy said that my centrestand was twisted.. and without me saying anything he asked if I sat on the bike to take it off its stand.. apparently it can very gradually twist the stand if your body weight isn't dispersed correctly.... with my bandit I just have one hand on the grab rail, one on the left bar and pull it forward with my right hand on the grabrail and support it wiith my left when it comes off the stand.

Sit on it.. and roll it forward with a bit of front brake to balance...

friend of mine had just bought his Fazer.. parked the bikes up in my garage next to each other on the centre stands.. he goes out first in the morning, knocks his off the stand while stood next to it.. drops it, domino effect, into mine, and takes mine out as well! his gets a bit of a dent on the can.. mine falls into the garage wall, big scuff down my faring, big scuff in my can, scratches on my indicator and rips the bar end off!!

Note to Self: Dont park your bike next to someone who's never taken a 600 off a centre stand before!!!

Exactly how I used to do my second speedfight (The shed).

me current speedfight used to have a center stand but but chav who owned it previously used it as a park bench and sat on it with the stand on. So when the centerstand was on, both wheels were on the ground making it VERY unstable on an uneven surface.

i have a side stand only now...

Blimeh! hate to state the obvious + be a moany old fart but a centerstand is NOT designed to take the weight of the bike and the rider, conciquentially it will snap, probably takeing any plastics with after sailing floorwards.

I take mine off same way as bendy, but with both hands on the bars... if you turn the wheel away from you it will natually fall towards you, the brake stops it going any further Razz

I generally just sit on mine and rock it forward off the stand unless I'm moving it about the garage or going to just be wheeling it eslewhere.

On another point, I once saw someone on a CG125 get the bike on to the centre stand by sitting on the bike.

Stand on the left of the bike, hold the bar with my left hand, somewhere on the frame with my right, then roll it forward off the stand. I've done the same with all my bikes.

The most awkward I've found was putting the side stand out on the R100RT whilst sitting on the bike. It was too far forward, so I couldn't get it out to it's fullest extent with my short leg. Had to kind of kick it out, then lay the bike over so the stand hit the ground, then roll the bike backwards. I really should have changed it.

I just throw the thing forward, one hand on the handlebar, one on the pillion grab handle. It's a 600, but I'm around 15.5 to 16 stone, so its no real problem at all, never even come close to dropping it from the centre stand.
