Just a reminder to SORN your old bikes.
I stopped riding my Mito in Nov last year and forgot to SORN the damn thing. Got a letter through the post and a £42.50 fine to pay. It's not the end of the world, but just a reminder so none of you get the same letter.

I just ignored my 'fine' letter (which if you read it carefully is not a fine but an agreement to settle out of court). They sent me another one after a couple of months doubling the demand. I binned this one also.
I have heard nothing since. I have had two bikes off the road but un SORNed for more than two years, I have had letters for both and ignored them. No further action has been taken.
If anyone has actually been prosecuted for not declaring SORN, I would be interested to hear about it. Far as I can tell, noone has, they are just counting on you to send them the money and if you don't, there are plenty more fish in the sea. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. CHECK YOUR V5s EVERYBODY!!!!
If your bike hasn't been taxed or SORNed for a while then you will probably not have received a new V5(c) version for it.
From the 1st July ALL old style V5s will be invalid ie your bike will no longer exist and you will probably lose the reg number.
Surely worth filling out one form just to keep the bike legit if you ever want to sell it or put it back on the road.
Of course this is their way of forcing us all to use SORN and will probably end up with a lot of older bikes simply 'falling' off their books
Then of course there is the possibility that they might start charging us for our 'free' SORN declarations [/b] |

I have loads of old style V5 documents, two of them are for vehicles that are still on the road, taxed etc. Do they just send you the new ones or what?
What about vehicles that have been off the road before there was a requirement to SORN them? Far as I know they still do not require a SORN, so they are just getting 'lost'? ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. Tax, SORN, or change of details will all generate a new V5(c), so it might be worth either changing address, or you could paint the bike and notify them of a change of colour
Bikes that have been off the road since before 1998 will still need one of these to be done to get a V5(c) otherwise I should imagine that they will disappear.
Of course this will then bring them back into the system and all of the requirement of the SORN system
You're damned if you do and damned if you don't
They've got us by the short and curlys, and I'd like to bet they will try to use this to screw even more money out of us. |

You should have got new ones when they were last taxed.

Still no requirement for SORN, but you still need to get a new log book. Not sure how to do this without paying £19 for a replacement or having to declare SORN.

More of a probability than a possibility (it is what the DVLA are currently trying to push through), added to which they are trying to make it an offence not to declare SORN for a vehicle that is not insured.
All the best
