Riding in a Bicycle lane ???

always wondered this. I reckon you could get away with it as on the tax disc it states bicycle. But wondered what everyone else thought.

Also if anyone has got caught riding in a bicycle lane let us know the outcome please.

Bicycle lanes are for bicycles. I reckon it's safe to hop in and out so long as you don't stop in one, ie, use it as part of the filtering lane between cars, but you don't really want to be filtering right next to the kerb imo.

Also bear in mind who comes off much worse if you hit a cyclist, and whose fault it will be.

It is illegal, end of story.

They are there for pushbikes only, best place for them IMHO, keep them seperate from motorised tranport and free up the roads for those who need to use them.

I wouldn't even use them for filtering as I detest riding in the gutter and would rather filter properly.

I put yes but shouldve put you could get away with it (i didn't see it). For this reason look what taxation class your bike is under........bicycle well mine is 125 sachs xtc, not sure about bigger bikes.

I don't use a bicycle lane as such, but I always use the big green area at the front of traffic lights if I filter on down. Much safer using that than being bunched up with the traffic. Thumbs Up

No cycle lanes up here in centre of glasgow and if there were I doubt I'd use them Thumbs Up

It is illegal as its any motorised vehicles not allowed in them so includes bikes although i doudt there many cameras watching cycle lanes to fine you so would be easy to use and not get caught

For what it's worth I've a sticker on my bike that says it's a bicycle.

I don't use the bicycle lanes, but like Instigator I use the red or green patch at the front of traffic lights. Thumbs Up

i read on here ages ago, that it is up to the local council, and that if they allow motorcycles within there cycle lanes.

Technically it depends on whether there is a solid line or a broken dotted line. If the later then you may cross if required. If solid then you are breaking the law.
