See if anybody has got any idea(s) plus a solution to what's causing the problem with my bike;

When the bike is standing upright fuel leaks quickly out of the hose underneath the bike, but when it's on it's side stand it doeasn't appear to be leaking except initially for a very small puddle of petrol the size of a hand that was almost dried out before I stood the bike upright. I checked this puddle and it smelled of petrol which made me suspicious but wasn't sure if it was left behind from another parked vehicle in the same place.

I had not ridden the bike since filling the tank up with petrol yesterday afternoon and it was filled to the normal level as usual.

Any suggestion would be helpfull..... !

What bike is it?

If it has a carb, the floats might be stuck, causing the float bowl to keep filling up with petrol until it overflows. Seeing as it is coming out of a (I presume) overflow hose I would say this is the most likely thing that is happening. Tapping the carb sharply with the handle of a screwdriver usualy sorts this.

Zephyr 550cc

Other suggestion is that there is a hole in the float preventing it from working properly. So either way thanks for the suggestion as I will now be removing the carb to inspect and clean it and to also found out why my idle adjuster will not rotate back/forward as it appears to be stuck !

If it is leaking out of the overflow pipe, then you may have some just dumped in the engine and my find trouble starting it afterwards.

Can you bump a 550cc?

Agree with the above, most likley is sticking floats, tap the outside of the float bowl and see if it stops.

Otherwise a hole in the float would do it as, would a dirty or damaged needle valve.

Depends what the hose is connected to surely? Is there an overflow trap on the filler cap? I'd check that (do a few miles to drop the tank level) before pulling the carbs to bits.

My old CB250 RSA did this when it had a carb full of water. Still ran ok, but fuel was pissing out of the carb overflow.

Being a kawasaki of that vintage it could have let some water in through the filler cap. Drain the carbs, give each float bowl a firm knock with the handle of a screwdriver, and see if it behaves.
