Hi,

As you probably all know, I'm still looking for a bike at the moment, and I posted in New Bikers about the FZR 250.

Spoken to the dealers about it, and they're prepared to do finance on it!

Would this be a good idea considering:

* I am 20
* This is my first bike ever
* I havent passed my CBT yet (Not that I'm going to ride it without)

I really want this bike though, it's a 1989 model going for £1500 and I don't really want a 125 as money is quite tight and I don't want to be changing bikes, I just want to do an intensive course and get on something that's not going to kill me straight away, but has a bit of oomph for when I can do accelerated access and take my restrictors out in June (If I get round to doing my test by then!)

Also, I want to get finance because I know in the unlikely event I can't make a payment, they will just take the bike away, instead of taking me to court which is what would happen if I got a loan.

Thanks for any advice guys,

Toby

if there's a chance that you can't pay for it mate i wouldn't even be looking at it!
In the next few years when your looking at buying a house you'll need a fairly good credit history!
(Sound old dont i??)

But apart from that, if you like it then go for it, i've asked oppinions before and because there's so many people on here with different experiances and likes/dislikes, then on something like a bike you'll end up more confused!

Thumbs Up if you like it, buy it

Wink

Get the money and licence first.

And don't expect a 4 cylinder 250 to be reliable. If it is, thats bonus, but not to be expected.

Make sure u change the oil regularly on it and you'll have no problem. Try and look for a CBR 250 MC22 model. They're bulletproof and live to be trashed. The 19000 redline is also a turn on! They are one of the most reliable bikes around. I've seen some with over 100,000 kms and never had any problems!

Definitely do your test first; really don't consider it before you have.

Then look at loans; if you can get one it will probably be cheaper than dealer finance.

Then haggle the dealer down a bit or blag some stuff.

Think the parrelel 4 250s are relatively good 'begginer' bikes for those that miss out the 125 stage.q

TOO dear, you could get a bandit or some other 600's for that price.

But as already said pass your test first.

I think you may be confused confused Confused

You do know that you cannot ride this bike until you have done not only your CBT, but your full test don't you? Confused Confused

You talk of doing your DAS in June and then removing restrictors, I don't suppose a 250 is generate more than 33bhp, which is what the restrictors are to restrict it to. But there is no point in doing your full test now, (which you would need to to ride a 250) and then DAS in June, you may as well hang on until June and just do the DAS, then you can ride anything you like.

CBR's can get up to about 45bhp if you find a good one, so an FZR wouldn't be too far off that mark and they hit about 195kph. FI international make 33bhp kits for both the FZR and CBR 250
