So..

Riding around a slow bend yesterday - about 30MPH....wheel hit a drain, I stupidly hit the front break and suddenly the bike left me...

EEK..

Bike and me went down the road...

Picked her up, left hand side of the CBR600 scratch galore...oil everywhere, and I can't get her into netural. I push the foot level, or lift it, it kinda clicks, but does not change gear (I am pushing in the bent clutch lever!)....

Fairings can be replaced, front, side and rear. It needs a new mirror and two indicators. My biggest concern is the oil everywhere and the lack of being able to get it into gear. Electrics all work fine.

Question, should I go through insurance, £500 excess + increased premiums next year, or fix it myself?!?

Any ideas...?
Doobs.

unlucky m8. before you go through the insurance i'd price up how much it would cost to sort yourself and weigh up weather its worth loosing any no-claims you have.

Hope ya get it sorted soon though

Sorry to hear that mate, If there's one thing you do learn from the experience.

Try and get the damage checked out and costed up if you can. You'll prob find you can repair it for 1/3 of what the insurance bill would be. Luckily it didn't invlove anyone else so keep the insurance out of it as long as poss.

Definietly repair yourself.

Look at how much insurance will actually cost you and it will probably come out more in the long run.

I'm sorry to hear about your off, still it happens to the best of us Wink

As G said, do the sums first.

Ask your insurance company how much your policy will go up for having made a claim over the next, say, five years.

Add up the total increase of cost of the policy, plus the cost of the excess.

Then get a quote for repairing it yourself.

Take your time deciding what to do, you may find that claiming on the insurance only increases your overall policy cost by a small amount and if it is only £100 more to go through the insurance you may end up with a better overall job and much less hassle.

Push the bike forwards whilst trying to change into neutral. Works every time if my bikes have ever got stuck in gear. If it doesn't work then try starting the bike *hold clutch obviously* and gently revving it whilst changing to neutral as often that'll work also. (mostly on 400's for some reason Confused )

Thanks for all the advice...

Is there a cream you can buy from boots for a bruised ego?

I have tried rolling the bike forward and backwards already..

When I push down, or pull up on the gear level, whilst clutch is engaged, it clicks, but doesn't really move like it should...limited movement.

Also, I have 0 NCB, phoned insurance company, they say that my insurance will be similar next year, as I am allowed 2 accidents in 3 years before I get penalised...hence I think I am going through insurance, even though there is a £500 excess. There is more damage than £500 I am sure, with 3 major pieces of fairing, indicators, mirrors, engine doesn't work (Gearing - see above)...

Thoughts/Suggestions always welcome...

Doobs.

Welcome to the club!! Embarassed

You seemed to have got away lightly compared to me. Apart from the engine casing. Is it cracked or just scratched?

I'd repair it myself if I was you, thats what I'm doing with mines Thumbs Up

Front wheel too? Feck....

It's getting costly. All depends on how much your excess is though? I was TPTF so I had no choice really.

Out of interest, where would one buy a new right hand fairing with decals?

How much would it cost?

No, but there is a liquid called "Jack Daniels" that can help. It's not available at Boots though...try your local pub Very Happy

Seriously dude----everybody has an off. I had been riding for 15 years when I had my last off, so don't feel bad at all.

Sorry to hear about your 600, but glad you were unhurt (beside the ego).

Thanks for all the replies...

Yeah, the newspaper didn't really do a good job, especially after she pee'd all the oil and coolant onto my garage floor Sad

Sand helped, but I didn't really want her to look like she was sitting on some beach somewhere, nursing her wounds.. Very Happy
