A question to anyone who has ridden a faired bike and a naked one. When passing trucks and when in side winds which bike takes the most battering from air flow?

pretty much the same, the only time a fairing is useful on a motorway is to stop forward air. Doesn't make much difference from side on.

A faired bike generally has clip-on style bars whereas a naked bike has wider street bars.

This makes the naked bike handle a bit better in gusting sidewinds.

However, with wider (mx) style bars, I'm generally sat up more, so less out of the wind.

Definitely notice it a lot more on my klr650 than most other bikes; but that was massive.

Bandit and VFR showed little difference (until hard luggage was fitted). Bigger heavier bikes are definately the way to go when its windy (provided you are moving above 20mph).

Didn't notice any difference with mine to side winds when riding without the screen / front fairing.

But, it knocked 10mph off the top speed, the bike ran a lot warmer and my neck / arms hurt loads.
