Why do second hand speed triples cost more than sprints of the same year?

I've seen a 2002 sprint with loads of extras and full triumph hard luggage for £4500 and many more for that and cheaper but the triples go for around the same with far less.

I think the Speed Triple is in more demand as it is alot more popular than the speed four. Probaly a better bike aswell, the speed four is basically a naked de-tuned TT600

oops sorry Embarassed it's 1am and im night shift.

I have no idea Rolling Eyes the speed triple just seems to be more exclusive and hold it's value alot better.

The Sprint was kinda let down by the fact that the media said it's meant to be a fireblade beater, which it aint. I think it's an amaizing sports tourer and gives the VFR a run for it's money. And it's probaly better cause it a Triumph Very Happy

The new Sprint ST should sell very well as it looks just as good as the new speed triple. Plus you cant beat the noise of a Triumph Triple engine Drooling

Marketing dude - they found a niche with the Speed Triple - ready made streetfighter looking bike. The Sprint as mentioned wasn't what it was made out to be - not individual enough - hence not as popular.

If your looking to buy one then couldn't you just do a cheeky and get an ST and 'fighter it?

I'm not sure, i prefer the sprint out the two, but pricing is down how much want there is for said machine, the greater the want, the greater the price?

Of course. Well pretty much aye. Its to do with demand as well.

For example the 2005 gixxer will be the most popular litre bike sold in Britain this year (probably). Its demand will be the highest yet its new price will be the lowest of the litre bikes.

Confusing one economics - see what happens when you stick a little bit of passion into things the fundamentals go out the window.

Just simple supply and demand. New GSXR's are plentiful, hence low price (and economies of scale). Second hand triumph speed triples are rarer (not as many new units sold, owners hang on to them for longer - crash less??, upgrade less??). So supply is less than demand, higher prices. I guess there must be more Sprints around.

Well, go on then...rip my argument to little tiny pieces. Smile

You're all talking a load of wang!

The Sprint ST is not the same bike as the Speed Triple. The Speed Triple is essentially an unfaired Daytona 955i and as such has better suspension and frame than the Sprint ST.

The Speed Triple has a tubular 'spondon' style frame and top notch showa suspension; The Sprint ST has a detuned engine and makes marginally less power. The only common component is the engine, and they are hardly identical.

The Sprint ST was never marketed as a fireblade beater, the suspension is just too soft. It was marketed as a VFR beater hence the ST name : Sports Tourer.

The Daytona 955i was actually never marketed as a fireblade beater either, its just the motorcycling press said that when the T595 was released.

Its actually aimed somewhere between the ridiculous speed and practicality of a 4cyl jap bike, and the low down grunt and passion of an italian twin. I think it hit the nail on the head personally.

It wouldn't work. The Sprint ST has an ally beam frame and sports touring suspension. You wouldn't end up with the same result.

Personally, I would say if you need the wind protection and mile munching ability, then go for the Sprint ST. If you want pose value and hooligan fun without the license loss potential go for the speed Triple. I would reccomend against the Sprint RS... Smile
