Hi all,
Wonder if anyone can help me, i have a small query. when i first put the ignition on i can hear clicking coming from the bike, it sounds like some relays clicking, i just want to know what is actually going on, my guess is that its something to build up voltage for the starter motor or spark plugs.
Anyone got any answers?
Cheers
WN

No the bike starts fine first time (I'm assuming your asking about my bike), assuming it's either the ignition coil, or as you say a relay.

Nope, it starts fine off the starter motor, the clicking stops after about 10 secs

Relays that can click when you switch on that I know of:

Ignition relay that sends power to the loom from the fuse box.

Any number of relays in the immobaliser.

Headlamp relay (if on).

Idiot switch starter button lockout (connected to the clutch and kickstand).

There are bound to be more, fuse boxes are full of the little buggers these days.

Just a thought is your bike fuel injected or carbs ? If its injected then it probably just the injectors charging.

Nope its a 96' divvy 600 so its carbs, nothing fancy just a plain workhorse

Edit: strange thing is i have noticed it on my bike and Davo's R6, so must be a fairly common thing

Fuel pump? Unsure of the engine/carb layout on the divvies, but I'd guess the R6 has one.

Would imagine it's the fuel pump, assuming the Diversion has one. Though it's not usually a clicking noise, more of a winding noise, I've not heard relays click until you atually push the starter (with a low battery).

As soon as u turn the ignition on the pump activates to make sure there's fuel in the system.

My thundercat does this as well - sounds like it's a Yamaha trait.

My Yam XJ650 used to do that, turned out that it was the fuel pump.

Petrol pixies.

They psych each other up like american footballers by smacking each other over the head. They wear hard hats, whicvh creates the clicking sound you hear.
