Ok I'm 19 and was mostly ignoring the elections, but how do I go about voting for MCN? Like that advert says, don't vote, don't complain. So it's about time "I did politics" and earned my right to complain. |

On a serious note what the hell do MCN know about managing our army.
If we come under attack are they gonna enlist us to all rev our bikes at the enemy? |

One in ten elligble males in the UK has a bike licence some statistics told me.
If all of them voted, then that could well win it .
However it's obviously not about winning, it's about making a point.
I would be tempted to try and 'stand' for them in the Reading area if I didn't quite dislike them and have far too much other stuff to do .
If we don't get any 'comedy options' here this time, I'd quite like to stand for the Raving Loony party next time .
(I'm includiing all the 'environmental' parties as well as the 'natural law' party in that.) |

Hi
Just a way to drum up a bit of publicity.
How many copies do they sell a week? Probably not enough to get 4 seats at the very best (ie, everyone voted for them, and they were all located in a concentrated area). Reality is that they will loose their deposit.
Even worse, seems my local Lib Dem candidate is Barry Stamp, whose main trick seems to be to shout loudly about anything local on the roads, and has been getting local busy bodies speed guns.
All the best

We would have a better chance if they stood in the Scottish elections. English politics use the FPTP or First Past The Post system to elect candidates for parliment, so whoever gets the most amount of votes in their constituancy wins. However, in Scotland parliment seats are allocated using the Proportional Member System, this works when all votes are taken into account, and roughly the overall percentage of votes a certain party gets is reflected in the percentage of seats they hold. So in other words we have a better chance in the Scottish parliment rather than General elections. Good idea tho . Sorry, politics student ____________________ Will work for petrol

Of course they have no chance of winning and they would not have a clue about running the country they are just trying to highlight the fact that bikers have the ability to effect the outcome if we all voted.
MCN claim that one of the major parties (guessing the Lib Dems) have asked them not to stand and have said they will adopt the policies that MCN announced if they don't.
It can only be for the good regardless of which party wins that they are biker friendly, nothing gets done unless the goverment, councils make/change the laws, helplines to report diesel spills, pot holes etc, have only come about because bike organisations and campaigns by the biking press have made them aware of the issues.
Making machine type approval and power restrictions law in this country has been defeated in the past but, it will only take one or two politicians to start shouting about it again especially after a few horror stories in the national press and on TV about bikers riding at very high speed and having a total disregard for anyone else.
Having a goverment that is biker friendly might help to prevent these things becoming law in the future, or maybe you don't care if you can't change your bike from standard in any way even down to fitting different tyres without getting engineers certificates for every single part or paying high prices for custom parts that have already been approved, or if you make your own parts you will have to pay to have them approved and certified, it makes building custom bikes of any type very expensive.
Highlighting the good aspects and benifits of biking is the responsibility of all bikers and the biking press, it only takes a few stories in the national press about "Mad, Bad Bikers" to destroy all the good work done and it only takes the likes of "The Sun" to launch one of it's "Kill the bikers" campaigns to make life very difficult for us.
We need to remember that dogs shitting on the pavement have more priority than bikers to your average politician! ____________________ Born again and weekend "bikers" that cause problems for us 24/7 bikers "I piss on you" |

Where I live you could put up a pig in a blue rosette, call it conservative and it would win every time.
This MCN thing is a one trick pony, OK you might be able to get your view known but 50,000 bikers demonstrating in Central London would get you message home far better.
Blair even tried to get the motorcycle vote before he was elected the first time, as you all know it really helped us:

I used to be a Motorcycle Action Group rep years ago and as a result of mass demos and meeting and talking with MP's the likes of machine type approval did not become law, just how effective demos are is debatable (but they were a lot of fun!) and i don't know if such large demos could be held these days without the police trying to stop it and cause mayhem as they have with some demos a while ago.
In Cornwall the local councils regularly meet with bikers and bike associations, if you get them on your side they might help if/when the goverment propose some new antibike legislation.

We got on ok with the police years ago as demos as big as the ones we held (approx 10,000 bikes in London) had to be planned in advance with them but, they still harrassed people as they rode from all over the coutry to the mass meeting point of a demo by stopping us every couple of miles and doing vehicle/docs checks they also photographed and filmed us for future reference!
Personally i was fined six times for riding without a helmet and it used to be just a £25 fine, these days you would probably loose your licence, some members even went to jail for refusing to pay their fines!
On the way to a demo somewhere can't remember which one, are you in there somewhere?

Ahh, those were the days, we were rather hard to ignore!
P.S. alliamc i did not say "Don't vote Don't complain" i quoted it from RickHolts post which was taken from an advertising campaign, and shit or know it's true, if you don't vote for a party vote against them then you can moan if they fuckup! ____________________ Born again and weekend "bikers" that cause problems for us 24/7 bikers "I piss on you" |
