Hey, Cool

For about 4 days now, my front disk brake has being acting all weird. I can only describe it as making a 'grinding' sound when i apply the brake. I can also feel the grind vibrations through the lever. The disk is also constantly rubbing quite loudly when the brake is not being applied.

The scooter is currently at 6300 KM and new pads were fitted at 2500 KM. Do you think they would be low already?

If so, is it dangerous to be riding it? Will it damage the disk or is there any chance of the wheel locking up when the brakes are applied?

Cheers

Brakes are something you can't take a chance with.

It all depends how much you use the brakes. If in doubt just pop the pads out and have a look. Replace if necessary.

Sounds to me that you have a binding brake i had a simular thing on my rear, that is being a pig to sort out, but hopefully yours should be just a dam good clean of the pistons!

have a look at Korns guide

You're describing pads that are worn to the metal. Check them immediately, and yes. Use the bike much and you'll end up having to replace the disk as well as the pads.

Bear in mind that you're now rubbing metal against metal and generating heat through friction every time you use the brakes. It's not unknown to weld the metal in the pads and discs together, locking the front wheel and spitting the rider into, say, a busy T junction like a melon seed...

Some brake pads don't last long, I once used SBS pads in my GT550 years ago but they didn't last long so I switched to ferodo pads which lasted longer.

These days I use Ferodo platinum, best pads I've ever used and they don't wreck the disc like EBC pads. (I only use EBC if I have no choice)

To be safe, check the pads now before riding, it could save your life.

Of all the important things on a bike the brakes will save your life.

Mines in the garage at the mo' with the brakes being stipped, cleaned, new pads & seals fitted and new fluid etc. And resprayed gold again. Because all the paint from the calipers has gone. Rolling Eyes

Took her out today and realised that the brakes were sh1tter than I thought and rode straight to a garage. (The back brakes were better than the front, so they must be bad).

£££ Arse. One of those things. I'll feel safer when I get her back though.
