Hey up
I first properly rode a bike 3 months ago and for the last 3 days i have not been able to ride due to my bike having no back brake, everyday when i cycle to work i pass my bike undercover and my heart feels heavy! it is then i realise i am now hooked on bikes, even if i am not wanting to go for ride it is knowing that i have a working bike that i can just escape on!
Just wondered how long it took people to get well and truely hooked after they started riding

You are not as hooked as me then. After my first few days of riding I wouldn't have (and haven't on a couple of occasions) seen the lack of a back brake as an impediment to me riding my bike (and still wouldn't). Very Happy

Took me two minutes!

I was in the Cook Islands, on a scooter I'd just rented (and had to drive it away without knowing how to drive one), in fantastic sunny weather on a lovely South Pacific Island with no helmet or much traffic, just gliding along effortlessly after three months spent cycling with /much/ effort!

It was great. Shame I haven't managed to recreate the good weather and no traffic since being back in England, but there's just too many cars for me to sabotage them all Smile

PS And when I rented a moped a week later which fell over while parked and smashed the rear brake handle off, I carried on. Apart from an unpleasant gravel-induced front-wheel skid while braking, it was fine. Does that make me hooked, or stupid??

Know the feeling. Pissed it down yesterday yet when i got home all i still wanted to do was ride out on my own. I must be hooked... or bordering on madness...

The first two minutes of the road phase of the CBT. I had this adrenaline rush, seriously and I was only going 30. Embarassed

Totally, utterly hooked about two minutes into my first pillion ride. From then on getting my own bike became an obsession (much to the disappointment of my mother).

I was brought up driving and riding bikes. Even when I didn't have my own I would go and borrow one from somewhere. So... can't really answer how long it took me to get hooked, think it was in my blood.

Was hooked long before I even went pillion.

I don't really remember it, but when I was a really small child walking around town with my grandma and aunty in Cardiff, they say I used to stop and look at all the bikes without fail. I would often make them wait until the owner came to take it away, and then cry at the noise the engine made.

My dad had a small 100cc bike in my other nan's garage (he only had it running for a brief time, it was a real nag) and so I used to sit on it for hours whenever we visited - until of course the bloody thing fell on me, which was a bit traumatic.

I can't believe it took me until age 27 to get my licence. Money really. Having said that, it was strongly disaproved of in my family. Hence when I got one, I was shitting myself about telling my mum. She was totally cool about it though, and has even gone pillion.

I liked it, but didn't really know how to get the most out of my ped, from day 1.

It wasn't until the bike blew up, and I googled for possible reasons why this would happen, that I found this forum, and reading your posts about how much fun you can have on any bike really did inspire me. I found myself longing for a bike Very Happy

So, cheers people of BCF... you've got me hooked on a fun (and very expensive) new hobby Thumbs Up Laughing

I'm with Bendy on this. Ride your bike but just use the front Thumbs Up Unless your front is so absolutely terrible that you have to use your back brake.

I could quite happily have my back brake removed from my bike. I do use it but could live without it. There's no way I'd let that stop me from using my bike.

yeh the back brake is only meant to be used to level out (balance) the front when your braking (and obviously as a backup if the front fails). Unless you mean the brake lgiht not the actual brake?

The moment I took my first bike out on the road, I was hooked.

There's probably only been about a weeks worth of days where I havn't ridden a bike between now and then.
