all of a 5 minute walk away but hopped on the scoot and nipped over there. It was a sunny day so aside from my helmet I was sporting 3/4 lengths, flip-flops and a t-shirt. Got some lovely stares back when I nodded to a one piece clad weekend-warrior R1 rider and a reflective vest toting cg rider. Felt good - but a little nippy today!

Don't know what the relevancy of the post was, felt good to get a reaction off other bikers at least. Usually the fact that I'm on a scooter means they stare straight ahead through iridium visors over acknowledging my presence.

They were probably cringing at the mental image of what you would look like if you fell off Smile.

Have a look at some of the people after they crash in the tour de france to see that slow speed crashed can hurt as well.

those tour de france bikes would piss all over my scoot!

Yeah I know, I shouldn't have but it felt funny leaning off the bike wearing shorts:D

Should know better really, we went out to Thailand last year (parents paying of course!) and there was a group of people we knew in a hotel about a mile away. 5 or so 18 year olds in their party rented a Thai Ford Mondeo (21st century Cub 90) and some of them managed to fall off - fairly low speed but wearing swimming shorts and flip flops...made their sun tans look real pretty Embarassed

TBH i've ridden in less than full gear. Never less than a lid and gloves though and never on main roads or more than 30mph.
Its usually when im working on the bike and i'll take it for a quick test. Usually just run it up my road and back again.

I like nodding, makes us feel like part of a community. Always used to nod to scooter riders but ususlly never got one back or just got a funny look. I don't bother nowadays unless they nod first. That usually gets a Thumbs Up from me. Smile

personally i wish the goverment would pass a law saying that suitable footwear, and cloathes should be worn.. like they have with helmets....

my dad was a bike copper for about 30years.. and i've lost count of the amount of stories..

one such was when a scooter rider came off, but his foot got trapped, apparently there was a white/ red line down the road where his foot had pretty much ground off to the ankel... surprise surprise he was wearing trainers..

Confused This is a real problem with our country atm, everyone expecting other people to look after them. Everyone knows good kit will keep your skin attached to your body if you come off, and anyone who takes the risk of riding without it has to accept the risks. Why do we have to force people to do things they don't want? It's their life and they can do what they want with it.

Have to disagree with ya mate. Don't agree with mandatory helmets either to be totally honest with you.
If a rider is stupid enough to go out without the correct gear then the result is their reponsibility as well.
If you crash with a lid on then in most cases the NHS will fund the repair of your bodywork. Crash without a lid and then its unlikely they need and help from the NHS because they'll probably be dead.
Not that I wish that on anybody!

I still can't agree. I do not like the idea of a nanny state. Personal choice is an important one.

If you look at the accident figures for motorcyclists at the time they brought the helmet laws in, the figures went up.

Many attribute this to the extra feeling of safety percieved by the rider. I don't want to live in a country where everything is illeagal "for your own good". That is a decision for me to make.

There are many more people who abuse our health service and cost it far more money through personal choice. Just look at smoking.

I would never wear flip flops in public.
