removing honda brake calipers/pads

Am I being thick, theirs 2 bolts which attach the caliper to the frame then theirs another 2 bolts which on mine are veeeeeeeeery very stiff, I can't loosen it even a little bit. The pads are touching and I need to loosen thm to get it over the brake disc and bolt it onto the frame. What do I do to loosen it?

Did you squeeze the pots back into the caliper before putting the new pads in? When undoing the bolts on the caliper, undo them when the caliper is mounted to the frame it will be a heck of alot easier. Try some plusgas on them to free it up.

they were off when I bought the bike, seemed abit dodgy to me that they are so stiff didn't want to put my whole force into them if it's the wrong thing.

Those bolts hold the two halves of the caliper together, if all you're trying to do is seperate the pads just pry em apart with something.
Do NOT loosen those two bolts to seperate the pads....

just gave that a go and it's not having none of it, sperate like a mm or 2 but thats it

take the lid off the master cylinder and wrap a cloth around it then try prying the pads apart

the fluid needs somewhere to go

wouldnt jam a screwdriver between brand new pads personally, can you not take the pads back out, then try and push the pistons back?

Perhaps you should relieve the brake fluid pressure then the pistons will slide back if they are not siezed

Remove new pads, insert old pads, use a spanner or such like to lever the pistons back protecting them with the old pads. Once nicely separated remove old pads and put new ones back in, slide over disc happily and secure to bike!

Had the same problem on my CBR6 with rear pads, nice of honda to put the exhaust right over the caliper too!

ahha all done, needed abit of a gentle pursuation with the right chisel/screwdriver is all (use a wide one and your sorted) cheers
