I was speaking to dad recently over the phone about my bike. I mentioned that she was reluctant to start when she was warm if i cut her out. We both knew this was the mixture, but he mentioned a company made a spark plug where the colour of the casing changes due to the emmisions in your engine (mixture etc.) Now my dad hasnt been a biker for about 20 years, so i was wondering if anyone had come accross anything like these? I did find SOMETHING like it, but not exactly the way he described.

there are plugs you can buy for tuning an engine's mixture, which use a semi-transparent ceramic insulator, allowing you to see a colour of the combustion in the chamber. They are designed only for temporary use while working on the engine.

halfords do them iirrc, but tbh, I'm not sure of their benefit these days.

You need a Gunson Colortune (see this thread).
Halfords do them but make sure you get the motorcycle version (different size plug). It's about £5 more expensive than the car one.
Other motorfactors should stock them and probably a bit cheaper than Halfords.
They are for tuning only, but very good if you get it right Very Happy

Failing that read the colour of your existing plus...
