Sounds like there is either a short circuit or a bad earth connection.

If it has just started doing it since it got a soaking, I would get yourself a big can of WD40 and spray it over all the bits of wiring you can find including in connector blocks, the back of the clocks, the ignition coils and switches. The WD in WD40 stands for Water Displacing, the stuff was actually designed to force water out of electrics.

If this doesn't fix it, I would start checking your frame earths, anywhere the end of a wire is bolted to the frame. Undo them, clean up the metal to metal connection with some emery paper and refit them with a smear oif copper grease over them.

Tried alot of things now. Problem still occurs...

Its ok up to 6000, then it stutters, so i have been dropping a gear to get past it, but then it does the same about 10,000 revs...

I havent got to the worst yet ...

Bike starts stuttering home and cuts out at the top of my road. I get it to the door, and check it out,

OOPS i have no fuel. So i whack it to reserve and just about get it started, then it cuts out just of the petrol station ... it wont start.

I push it to the petrol station and fill it up. Now it doesnt start, i try everything i can until i result in ringing break down service which comes free with my insurance, so i wait for an hour which wasnt bad, i get it brought home, and now its in my backgarden with a warm cover over it, officially announced "dead".

I dont know what to do. Shall i call a Mobile Mechanic instead of taking it to a garage which i dont know how to do seeming the bike wont start ...

i wouldnt mind but ive only had it a month Sad((

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Jon

some of my cars are right lil madams when the petrol runs dry, the one won't start for 3 sometimes 4 days if I let it run dry before filling it back up. Maybe it's that, try it in a few days an see. Maybe you've flooded it (quite easy to do)

check your compression before you pronounce it dead, so long as it turns over you can test it. Also the usual stuff check for spark, dodgy earths, fuel getting to the carbs etc

I know this sounds stupid but it could be worth giving your battery a charge because although it doesn't have anything to do with the rain, my bike went through a stage of spluttering and cutting out at anything above 5k when it was cold. It made a really fast clicking noise from around the CDI while it was doing it as well.

As soon as i charged the battery it stopped happening, turned out because i always have my lights on full beam, the battery just couldnt get enough power through when it was cold.

Can't do any harm if its just sitting there.....

oh, jump start it too after you've made those checks. 9 times more likely to start that way. I jumped my bike and it started on 1 cylinder (1 coil isn't sparking) but wouldn't start just from the switch/battery by itself.

You say it doesn't start on the button? Try bump starting it from second gear and see if that starts it up.

Check your spark plug (get rid of any carbon build up on it or even better get a new one).

If problem is still there then check the spark that is coming from the HT lead (the lead that connects to the spark plug). It could be that the HT lead is gone and may need replacing.

I had this problem the HT lead was f***'d and sometimes whilst riding, the bike would cut-out sometimes and wouldn't start. So i replaced the HT lead and spark plug cap and now its fine.

There is a member on this forum who is a expert with the NSR. His username is 'alains'. Send alians a pm describing your problem, he may know whats wrong.

My bike has a similar issue to yours and im sure its because my powervalve is shot.

Take a look at the powervalve, on some bikes when you start up it fully opens and closes as a self test. If yours does this then its probably sound.

Hi Jon

I've had many starting probs with my old bike and normally it seemed to be that the engine was completly flooded and the spark plug was wet because of this.

Try hitting the starter button for 15 secs while the spark plug isnt in to let all the crap out of the engine then put it back in and see if it will start.
