This is my new Alpinestars textile jacket (thanks to the guy that said that alf's motobike shop in worthing you were def right and such a great store, going there again def!) i like it and think it looks good with my new bike..what do think? contructive replys please as i know we all have our own taste! Confused

The problem that i have is that my dad had a CB125 when he was my ages and hasnt rode bikes for a long time and everytime i take ity up and down my road (17KM in total) he keeps asking for a go and i let him as he is my dad after all, but he doesnt understand the following statments:
"im still runing it in so not past 6000rpm"
"dont open it up"
"go slow"
i can tell hes puching it and this doesnt bother me as much as what happend next:
he came to the top of my road (further than i said he sould go) and a car pulled in (wouldnt of happend if done what i said) jamed on front break and as its a RS125 they are very sharp breaks and he almost droped it, a CM more it would have gone and i was shaking afterwards as was so scraed as not a mark on it!!

I had a huge go and banned him from going on it as scared the shit out of me as i payed for all the bike, wasnt a present a present from my dad Confused i payed for it all and took years to save for. comments please!

glad you found alf's, aye it is a good place!
tell your dad that it is YOUR pride and joy and he should leave alone! if he really wants to have a go he will get one for himself! Laughing
Jacket looks good, but would look even better with armoured trousers! Razz

I think it is a fairly safe bet that your Dad will understand and appreciate the fact that you saved hard and paid for the bike out of your own pocket. Thus if he did drop it, I expect he would pay for any damage. Maybe your Dad is different but I would expect most parents to be overjoyed about you working for something you want and respecting you for that.

Someone old enough to be your Dad who owned a CB125 probably had one of the pre-restriction ones which did a genuine 80mph and revved to around 12,000rpm so it is not too dissimilar to your own, modern 4-stroke 125s are only slow because they are built to be.

If it were me I would get the thing run-in (shouldn't take you long once you are out and about on it) and let him have the odd shot once you have it thoroughly warmed up. In any case, revving up a new bike is nowhere near as likley to do any damage as in the old days of cast iron barrels, just make sure it is warmed up fully.

In my experience it is worth keeping your dad on-side when it comes to motorbikes in order to help fend off your mums objections to getting a bigger bike in the future. The bank of Dad usually offers a considerably lower interest rate than your own bank too Wink

Thats quite alright!! Alf's are slightly more expensive than other shops I've been to, but there customer service is unbeatable.

They're always willing to help you out, and let you sit on the bikes, try clothes on...ask stupid questions!!

If you'd have come another 5 minutes into worthing, you coulda come and met me!! Cool

yea, i think were a team at the mo as hes hinting to my mum about a 600 for summer and doing his test next spring, of course i am backing and in return he give my mum the reasurance that my RS125 is much safer than my moped, k we dont say safer but along the lines of a better bike to ride.

Thanks for the point about the CB125 as he said it did 80mph and i thought he was talking out his arse but thanks for setting me straight!! how much BHP was it?

They had 16hp as I recall.

I don't know why it is, but older bikes seemed to go really quite fast on what would be considered a piddling amount of BHP these days. A well sorted but standard pre-unit (1950's) Triumph Bonneville would do over 120mph on 40 odd ponies.

God looking at those pictures it reminds me of how much I miss my old RS. It was the same as the ones in the pictures but it had a black seat, not red.

As far as trousers go, get down to a hein gericke if theres one near you. They have a lot of good kit at good prices, plus the customer service is excellent!

Good luck for when you get your insurance, and safe riding

Wink
