Something along the lines of super unleaded.

I think it just has a higher 'RON'.
A bike magazine did a test recently on it, It gave nominal performance increases. Something like 1bhp in a sports 600, so along the lines of 1% if you're lucky.

No real noticeable difference to your RS, only your wallet will feel about 3 pence lighter per litre.

Its recommended that 98 RON fuel is used in the RS125 anyway. I used to use the first "Unleaded" pump I came to. Thumbs Up

No, but using normal unleaded when higher octane super unleaded is specified is likely to cause major engine problems.

All the best

i use 98 (super) unleaded in my RS as i think that be such a fragile engine there might be a good idea, dont want a engine rebuild to deal with!

Using normal unleaded makes our subaru run very poorly indeed. Suffers from turbo lag...or feels like it anyway. Needs the more expensive, higher octane stuff to run properly. Pity though...it jsut never gets it. Laughing

You really ought to run Impreza turbos on 98RON, as with most reasonably tuned cars. It even specifies it in the Impreza manual, only the non turbo runs on 95.

This is a forrester. But yeah...we really should use the proper stuff. Just as well we're going to p'ex it before it starts costing a lot of money.

I personally think it was the Super Unleaded/Optimax petrol that nailed the coffin in the GPZ's first engine. I heard some bad stories about it too causing other engine problems.

Unless you ride some supersports highly tuned mofo of a bike, stick with normal unleaded.

i tried Optimax in my car a few times and it is better in terms of smoothness and throttle response, MPG worked out the same unless i was on the loud pedal then it was swallow the stuff compared to normal, cheap unleaded.

I was led to believe it was closer towards 100, hence why a lot of jap performance imports need to be run on super unleaded (optimax).

At least we get better fuel than the states, and china (ron values down to about 91)

I recently read an article on this and it was along the lines of: A higher octane means a slower burn hense more friendly for the engine and less knocking but less octane creates more power and burns faster but can cause engine knocking from it igniting so quickly. Also if you were to get any more power from high octane fuel it would also need to be tuned in with the ignition timing to coincide with the rate at which it ignites or something like that I thought high octane was for more power all this time! Yes, but thats because the average car in the UK and europe have smaller more highly tuned engines. 2 litre cars in the states are considered small and under that a joke. Most american cars are 4 litres or more running much lasier states of tune and run fine on 91 octane fuel. Super unleaded is readily availiable and fuel is much cheaper in the US so yo uarent crippled by having a vehicle that needs higher octane fuel. As for china i believe the majority of vehicles are low powered commuters, and again dont suffer from low octane fuels.

In the Bandit 600 I'll have Unleaded, it doesn't need anything more so why pay the extra?

In the Metro I use Super as it's supposed to run on 4 star. I refuse to use LRP (also it's quickly vanishing) so just fill up with 4 star and add an additive to stop the valve seats getting damaged.
