Calling all SRAD owners

Friend of mine slightly altered the shape of his GSX-r SRAD, which is a '99 model by using a tree/hedge combination.

Anyway, something fell off in the crash. It's mounted forward and to the left of the rider, cowering in the nose fairing, it's just in front of the fuse box. Name that part. It looks like it should be a relay of some sort...?

And also, when you turn on the ignition on an SRAD, apparently it makes an electrical noise, the owner told me it was the fuel pump, to which I told him the bike had carbs. Guess that noise.

Any help/info much appreciated.

Dunno on the first question, but my old SRAD made the same noise (ish) as my fuel injected GSXR750 makes; you turn the key, it makes the whining noise as the needles bounce up and down the range and the lights come on.

Dunno if that helps at all?

The needle doesn't bounce on the 600 SRAD, which is a shame, as that looks uber cool.

Just wondering why an IL4 4 stroke should make any electrical whirring.

My TZR does it, but that's the YPVS servo, my dad's VFR does it, but that is the fuel injectors doing what they do.

It's not even an automatic choke.

Carb bikes have fuel pumps... just not injectors.

they have fuel pumps to force the petrol into the carbs, because gravity feed isn't quick enough.

sometimes i get a short / long (dependant) tickiing / whining noise...

just comes from fuel pump

Ok, so that's the whirring.

Can anyone offer any insight as to what the missing part might be?

It's right in front of the fuse box, in an ABS plastic box, the same as the fuse box.

It's stopped the electrical whirring, nothing happens when you thumb the starter, and the indicators don't work, but that could be a fuse.

I believe it's a relay, just what it does I don't know. And until we know what it is, we can't get another one.

I thought that the 1998/1999 SRADs were fuel-injected?

If that is the case, then the whirring noise is indeed the fuel-injectors being primed.

In regards to figuring out the part - any chance that you can get hold of a workshop manual/fiche/wiring diagram? Or even some pictures (as they speak a thousand words, apparently...).

The bit circled is the indicator relay.

All SRADs have fuel pumps, carbed and FI, that's what the noise is. 750 SRAD got FI in 98, the 600 in 99. That box that mounts to the left of the fusebox as indicated in the picture is indeed the indicator relay, it'd stop the indicators working, but it wouldn't stop it from starting, you've got another problem, checked the killswitch?

This bouncing of the rev counter and speedo isn;t only on FI injected bikes either, it does it on my carbed Bandit, and it makes a whirring noise.

Have a look at the Microfiches on this site. It's American but might be able to help you identify the part.

And I can confirm that the whirring noise is the fuel pump priming the carbs.

Yes, apparently it's the indicator relay, and also something to do with the sidestand switch. Which would stop it starting, but shouldn't stop it starting out of gear...

Bit stumped.

and that is a definate on both ive got two 1999 gsxr 600 srad's

I really like the whining pump on startup, reminds me of my brothers RD350 YPVS stinkhorn. Got me hooked on bikes , that did.

750 srads 97 on are FI
