I've got a rear paddock stand, but I can't put the bike on it without someone holding the bike up straight first. My GF managed to do it once, but nearly dropped it, and is scared to try again. Is there any techniques anyone knows for one person to put a bike on a stand?

Cheers,
Dan.

One of my mates could on his Hornet. My micron stand instructions say must be operated by two people, and im too scared to try on my own.

I wouldn't risk it mate.

I just hold the back of the bike while placing the stand underneath, then push up Smile

As sparky said, if you've got a side stand, you can leave the bike on the side stand. Then place the left hand bit off the padock stand under the left hand swing arm. Push down on the stand while steadying the bike at the back.
If you've got the right hand side lined up it should slot in fairly smoothly.

Call me pedantic, but don't you push down? Wink

I've used a paddock stand hundreds of times by myself, only once had a problem when lowing the bike, I forgot I put the side stand up, and nearly dropped it, I didn't though.

Now I just use a check list. Smile

I put a piece of wood under the sidestand to get it a bit more vertical, then use the paddock stand.

I've always done mine on my own and never had a problem. I just line both sides up and take it easy. I also make sure to keep the pressure on the handle when lowering it back down.

Cheers

To get the bike off the stand, i sit on the bike, brace my feet against the wheels of the stand and rock it forward gently.

Put one side of the paddock stand on first (left) and push down on stand and guide it into place you will of course be standing towards the right of the bike I do this on the TLR on my own and it isn't exactly small or light.

My stands a flip up one anyway, so as soon as you tilt the bike over it springs up.
I've got a Micron rear paddock stand and have never had a problem using it on my own. Smile

Just get the stand underneath the swingarm, and lever the bike upwards...

I just line the cups/hooks up, and use my foot to push the stand down, while standing at the side of the bike.

To take the bike off the stand, I put my foot by the wheel of the stand, and push the bike forward. Thumbs Up

Practice? That's how I built up my paddock-stand-prop-ups.

Get a friend (or family member) to support the bike whilst I jack it up on the paddock stand. Then ask them to loosen their grip more and more, whilst you find a position where you can both support the bike and jack it up (use them as a 'just in case'). You'll soon adopt your own knack of doing it single handed, but have the comfort knowing that someone's there to support the bike if anything happens.

Just what I was gonna say. I use a couple of thin planks of wood which brings the bike almost upright, then use the stand.

Tell you what though, it's a laugh doing the front one on your own!

I have 2 rope loops hanging from the beam in the garage I hook them around the bars, that keeps the front end steady, just to be on the safe side I still loop my arm around the rear of the bike and grab the pillion foot peg mount, then push the stand down with the other arm.

works a treat !
