Honda CBR250's and Yamaha FZR250's seem quite punchy for their capacity, but hard to find and the same with parts. Your probably better off going for a restricted 400, you can pick up Bandit 400's which look quite nice, one on ebay at the moment. Kwak ZXR400's seem a good choice for a sports 400, and my favourite, the Honda CBR400 NC29. For a reliable Honda, then the CB400N might be a good choice as a first bigger bike. Also worth considering Honda CB500 as I hear they are quite quick, and handle very well for what they are. ____________________ Honda MBX50 | Yamaha RD125LC | Suzuki RG125F Lucky Strike | Suzuki GSF600S

I would recommend the CB250 seeing as it's indestructible, does a genuine 80mpg and is nippy around town. But if you're thinking along the lines of an RS125 then the CB250 would be a bit slow and boring for you I guess. ____________________ Monster m600

Have you thought about a GS500 mate?
I know they arent the most sexy things on gods earth... but they are a very stable bike to ride, realy easy to pick up. Not gona scare you to death, but will still have enough to show off a bit in front of your mates... realy comfy riding position, and cheap as chips to run.
I have mine for sale at the minute, offers around £800 realy... so cheap as chips, 12months MoT & tax, quite a few appearance mods... check it out in the exchange and mart section. see what you think, i could post a direct link to it if you wish.

They're ok, not as fast as the Suzuki RGV, but the daddy of all 250cc s strokes is the Kwak KR1-S. Quick as fuck, and looks bloody nice as well. Although I think the NSR250's MC18,21 and 28 are the best looking 250 2 strokes. ____________________ Honda MBX50 | Yamaha RD125LC | Suzuki RG125F Lucky Strike | Suzuki GSF600S

I had a kawasaki ninja 250 a while ago, they're not really that common in the uk but it was bullet proof, nippy for a 250 (14k redline if I remember right) and handled really nice.

Other than that, if I was you I'd think about one of the more sensible 400's, like a bandit 400, cb-1 or bros, like ste said ____________________ "he who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man"- Dr. Johnson |

Hi all im new hear but would like to suggest that you keep your eye out for a japanese market honda vt250 spada as it falls [just] into the power bracket allowed on restrictions and has an all most perfect power to weight ratio to boot,
Although they are a little on the rare side they fetch 8 and 16 hundred puonds depending on condition, They have pretty much bullet proof motor handle great and arnt the most expensive bikes to run (cheapish service parts, tyres and 50-60 mpg),
Ive had mine since febuary this year and have put around 4 grand on it, mine was a real bargain it had been stood for 18 months and was advertised for £400 ono, the woman i bought the bike of had lost the service history so got price down to £200 but general conition suggested the mileage was legit (18.700km) so deals are available if you keep an eye out. ____________________ hellkat wrote:
