So how many of you pussies think your bike is powerful, fast and quick?

How would you like to prove it?

The Ultimate-Streetbike Challenge

who's brave enough Laughing

and yeah, yeah, yeah - I've heard all the arguments about straightline, not as much fun as corners, easy to do, blah blah blah

but what do you talk about in the pub with non biker mates - getting yer knee down or bhp, top speeds and 0 to 60 times

sorry the pics a bit pants but check out the website

You sit there in an awkward silence occasionally mentioning bikes until they decide they don't want to be in your company again.

Or that's my experience. Thinking

Some of us are happier riding the things than standing around in pubs and talking about them.

Hi

Mmm, might try and get along to the dyno day. Might even manage to make the top speed runs (need to check the diary).

Fully expect a 1200 Bandit to be somewhere near the bottom of the pile.

All the best

Keith

don't

I know of at least one VFR750 that will be there

and I also know of a naked 1200 bandit that ran about 150mph Wink

The Ultimate-Streetbike Challenge = For bikers that can only ride in a straight line! Confused

Turbo Busa - Big power, high top speed, great sqm time! Put it up against a 'street bike' with half the power and half the weight and see how it gets on on the track. Wink

Lots of people missing the point then Thinking

I'll certainly be down to Big CC to say hello and coo over nice bikes. But alas I'm otherwise engaged with Snetterton on the Monday. Might have to prod G to free the 9 from it's current duty as a shelf though, as he insists the gearbox issues don't matter in a straight line. Smile

I just dont think you can pick an 'ultimate STREET bike' from top end, quarter mile and highest bhp. The last time I looked, the majority of road had bendy bits in them. Wink But then I dont get out much so maybe thats changed! Laughing

I'd presume it's to differentiate from drag bikes, in that these are all road legal?

Anyway, where I live, most of the streets are long and straight Razz

Dont get me wrong, I love big bhp bikes, but I wouldnt want something that couldn't also go round corners well.

Jonboy... one word for you. 'Elvington'. Wink

Barry... I'd venture that most of the bikes you'd see on a day like this will go round corners just dandy. From what I've seen you'll get some running extended swingarms and stuff but the majority are left well alone (well, except for the engines Very Happy). You gonna tell me the zx12 doesn't go round corners?

Elvington's an airfield where they do straightliners drag racing. They certainly used to do RWYB, don't know if they still do.

all bikes will be road legal, Streetbike is a racing classification

I think there may also be an untimed "handling" circuit involved so the bike has to be able to go round corners as well

there are dozens and dozens of events where people can go roundy roundy to their hearts content and get points and win championships

this competition is about power, acceleration and top speed (and durability) which is not such an easy balance surprisingly - a well set up drag bike will not cope with a 2 mile flyer very well

and it's a class based points system, with points awarded for getting closest (or past) class targets so a 750 can compete with a turbo busa as the turbo busa will have to hit 500+ bhp to score max points where the 750 will only have to hit 150 bhp for example (not the real numbers but you get my drift)

I hear direction is also tricky. Perhaps you could get some gutter bumpers rigged up?

Now why would I tell you that!? Wink Smile

I know how the big cubed bikes handle, I've owned and ridden some big power bikes in my time. Bikes are my hobby now, rather than an everyday mode of transport upto when I got my first car at 25.

I've actually got my eye on one of the new ZX10's at the moment, and when I sell my car in the next few months, I could just well see one sitting in my garage! Wink Very Happy

Could be interested in the 2 mile jobbie at Ipswich. I've often wondered what the real top speed of my bike is, but I'll be buggered if I'm riding all the way to Elvington to find out! Ipswich is still a nice trek, but a fair bit closer. I've done Santa Pod which is good, but annoying - i.e. you make a slight mistake and your whole run's knackered (yes, I know that's the point!).

I know you won't believe this but top speed runs are exactly the same

a tiny mistake can cost you 10mph

please check out the website on the ad, and come along

you'll be more than welcome

I have no such delusions of grandeur. My bike is none of those things. Sad

Once I've got a bike with some grunt I'll look forward to taking part in this sort of thing. Smile
