Why dont aprilia make a sports 600? Most other manufacturers do, yamaha, honda, suzuki, kawasaki even the duke 749 to an extent, its a massive market and very surprised that they dont produce a bike for this market?????

The R&D Budget alone for Aprilia to make a 600cc sportsbike would be millions alone, and then it would only just compete with the jap 600's.

The markets where Aprilia usually target are ones that are neglected, or specialised ones.
Their 1000cc V-Twins are some of the best, and they make some of the most sought after 125's.

There really wouldn't be alot of money for Aprilia in the 600 catagory against the established Japanese ones, look at Triumph they tried to compete and failed badly with the TT600 and early Daytona 600's, only now that they have a 680cc Daytona on the horizons is it competing.

i was watching a program about aprilia and said that they are being taken over by piaggio so that might explain why they havnt be competing in new classes, and as craig- said there would be any point as the jap companies are to establised.

Hi

There were reports of them doing one years ago, using a bought in Suzuki engine. They are now owned by Piaggio who also own the Gilera name and got close to launching a Gilera badged 600 using a GSXR600 engine.

When they were first talking about launching a big V twin (late 80s) it was due to be a built as both a 750 and a 1000.

Piaggio have talked about Aprilia entering the 600 market. To be honest I am not sure it would suit Aprilias development cycle, as they tend to have longer model lives than the Japanese factories now (although in the past they were launching new 125 sports bikes every couple of years).

The 450 / 550 v twin is being talked about as a possible alternative to a sports 600. We will see.

All the best

Keith

A 600 twin would be a bit pointless really I think. I mean, ok, the SV is a good bike, bit it is more a street bike than sports, and Aprillia is all about sports and performance, so creating a 600 twin just wouldn't do it.

That is why most of the time we compare 600 il4s to litre twins as the power is generally similar - except of course for the likes of ducati and suzuki's TLR who manage to get massive power out of their litre twins.
