First off, kudos to the mods and members for making such an informative and interesting forum.

Now to business.

I've always been into biking since so high **points to knee caps**, my granddad and dad had bikes so i'd thought i'd continue the tradition. I was first hooked when i was five on the back of my dad's 125 and more recently the back of his Gixxer Thou.... My God that goes fast..... Shocked

Anyway, enough with the waffle

So i book my CBT 6 months ago, failed the first time. 'No biggie, more pratise needed' I thought. But after the 6th time i finally pass it... 6th! i mean, i surely have to be in the running for some sort of award for that... (Passed on the 25th July) Two days after that, I was in A&E after my knee was caught in an unholy sandwich of tarmac and bike... To top it all off, now my bike has been nicked by some 'thieving toe-rag' and the insurance is thinking its a scam....

Are you being serious ?

6 times to take your CBT, 2 days later you crash, then a couple of days later it gets stolen. Neutral

Because your CBT is not a test, it's an indication that you have reached a riding standard that makes you safe to be on the road?

It sounds to me like you needed a lot more practice before you hit the roads, and I have to admit I also smell a rat. Your family all have bikes and you weren't riding/fixing field bikes from the age of being old enough to reach the floor?

So someone who has been around bikes all his life can't ride one without 6 solid days of training? Either you're taking the piss or you really shouldn't be on the road.

I may of embellished the truth a tad there, i only sat on the 125 when i was 5 and then he gave up biking after a couple of mates of his died, and only in the past year or so has he got the gixxer.

As for the CBT i had an ex-army drill sergeant screaming 'You are going to die/You are dead' and so on... Even going round cones in a car park... Not the best confident builder methinks....

And so, gave up biking for six months. Rebooked my test with a different school, who made me feel at ease and passed first time....

As for the insurance, they phoned through today and everything is all kool and the gang, and they should be winging the cheque to me sharpish.

you were ripped off, normally its a flat fee of about £50 and you keep coming back until you have reached the standard

i guess they dont have many customers and like to squeeze as much out of them as possible or the drill sergeant thought you shd be to a higher standard than most cbt instructors

normally its quite rare for ppl to go back a second time let alone 6 times

oh and your insurance company is also ripping u off which is why i only pay for tpo as theft cover takes ages to pay out

£50 is a really good price - I couldn't find anywhere under £80 in Sheffield and £90 seems the norm Shocked Where did you find it for £50 mate? Thinking they may be cheaper for lessons possibly (if they 'aint too far off).

£50?

do i have gorm written on my forehead? i paid £120ish for the ex army bloke and £100 to the other bloke... i am gutted... Brick Wall

As for the car route, already been down that road... I didn't/don't like the false sense of security that it gave/gives. But since passing the CBT, all has gone swimmingly. I feel I ride safely and without danger to myself or to others... Admittedly i did only have a ANF INNOVA, but some-one has got to start somewere... Mr. Green

I went back twice for my CBT but six times is an awful lot. Maybe you should get some more training before you go out on the road again, doesn't sound like your a natural to me.

But don't give up, motorcycling is extremely rewarding! Very Happy

I paid £100 for mine, the instructor was very good although the radio comms we used weren't all that decent. If anyone is in the Leeds area and wants to do their CBT with a decent lot, I recommend Kickstart 2000 Thumbs Up

www.kickstart2000.co.uk me thinks

They use a moped and an SR125 for their CBTs but many people don't like the SR.

Was I just blessed with the God of all Riding instructors? I had Zero experience, listened to what they said tried it, practised it and passed it. (I can feel a flame-rating coming on) If someone has to go back 6 times (36 Hours of training! Sick ), they should take their bike back to the dealer, and trade it for bus fare!

When you said that you went to the army guy and failed, then gave up, is that after failing three times with him?

Did you have a pushbike as a kid? Did you constantly fall off/get run over, but still think it was a good idea?

this post has been edited 6 times in total Brick Wall

I'm still confused by:
Quote:
Thankfully not, no... Buy one get two free kind of job

... who on earth would use a company that offers CBTs as buy one get two free? Surely that means they expect you to "fail" at least the first time, or am I missing something?

I had to go back once, basically because the first time i was wired on coffee and was twitchy.

The second time it came naturally to me.

Good luck with getting the bike back, etc. Rolling Eyes

Don't discount him because he was shouting. Ever considered that he might actually be right?
6 times to pass a CBT is extraordinary, and you have already come off. You can't blame all this on the instructor - It sounds like you are not ready to ride on the road. Seriously, you ned to get some more training. Even if it's just spending some time riding with experienced riders.

PMSL!! 6 times to pass something thats virtually impossible to fail Question Laughing

you dont belong on a bike, simple as that, your obviously incapable of riding 1 and your gonna kill yourself (or somebody else), Get a buss pass dude.

And for all of you saying you just need some practise !!! Bollox !!!

You have to be downright stupid and very dangerous on the road to fail a cbt.,Something that practise will not cure.

Not getting the CBT the first time (IMHO) is fair enough. People can suffer badly with nerves etc. 2nd time is always happy days. Thumbs Up

6 times WTF?

I really don't want people like you sharing the road with me.

Sorry dude. But I think that you shouldn't be riding full stop!!
