Coming up to a roundabout, it was clear apart from one car indicating left, presuming (foolishly) he was going to turn down the road I was coming from, I pulled out, only for him to be going for the exit afterwards, going accross the outside lane and nearly Tboning me.

Can't believe I was such a fucking idiot. Can't stop thinking about it.

the main thing is you didnt get hit, and realise that you could have prevented it rather than just moaning about the car driver like some people do

Well wasn't his fault... He might have indicated a little earlier but I shouldn't of been so presumptious.

It happens to everyone, that trick does. I think the key is either to have enough acceleration to get out of the way (not the best way), to leave your exit earlier, or to wait until they have slowed to turn or are indeed turning off.

The lesson here is to never trust someones indicators Thumbs Up

I always wait until I see them actually start to make the turn before I pull out. Same goes for t-junctions as well. Better safe than sorry Thumbs Up

Just be glad you avoided this one!

OK, so you pulled out.

You managed to stop before he hit you.

Your sixth sense probably saved you. Without it you would have just looked straight ahead and ridden straight into trouble.

You sensed that something wasn't right, and looked again. In situations like that it could be something like the car's speed or the direction the driver's looking that makes your subconscious realise you're getting conflicting information.

It's not nice when you realise you didn't consciously avoid danger, but your own subconscious awareness saved you. Just don't rely on it!

Sounds like you're a good rider to me. You're not blaming the car driver.

Well no I didn't stop... He slowed down... I was already out when I realised that he wasn't turning... Stupid mistake, but wont happen again if I've got anything to do with it.

OK, so you didn't stop - but if nothing else, it'll stop you blaming 'cagers' every time there's a near miss, because you know how easily it can happen.

You sound like someone who takes responsibility for his own safety. I would have reacted in the same way to making a mistake.

...and I bet your sixth sense will remember this next time!

It sounds like you responded well, congrats.

The trick I find is to ignore the indicators. People often don't use them correctly, either putting them on too early, too late, or not at all. Watch the wheels, you can always tell when and where someone is coming off. Thumbs Up

Ride like they are all out to getcha mate.
One thing I've learned about riding...it makes you a better car driver. You have to learn defencive riding coz your always gonna come second in an argument with a car. Normal car drivers feel a degree of invulnerability and drive accordingly. But if you've been riding a few years some of those defencive riding techniques spill over into your driving too.

Now just remember....most of em wouldn't know a Suzuki from a Zanusi so treat them all like the dick heads they are and never trust them.

Zoffo's the man. Ditto what he said.

All car drivers should be made to ride and take some standard of bike test before they are let loose behind the wheel of a car.

Well done for not panicking, Toby. Notch it up to experience. I see a potential accident practically every time I go out. Sometimes my fault, and always avoidable..................So far!

Well I know full well that if I ride like a cunt im going to get smacked down like a cunt, so I stick to MY limits and no one elses, and not lets cars bully me into things... I don't care whether there's 500 cars behind me all beeping, If I can't make that manveuveur... Then I can't make it and they're going to have to wait 30 seconds of their pathetic lives until I can Razz

Funnily enough I haven't had a car overtake me or try and intrude MY space for the past 2 and a half weeks Razz

Ride safe people

Toby
